We study motion of a point-like impurity in a Bose-Einstein condensate at T = 0. By solving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in a perturbative manner we calculate the induced mass of the impurity and the drag force on the impurity in 3D, 2D and 1D cases. The relationship between the induced mass and the normal mass of fluid is found and coincides with the result of the Bogoliubov theory. The drag ...

A novel feature for control of carrier mobility is explored in an order-disorder separated double quantum ring, where the two rings thread different magnetic fluxes. Here we use simple tight-binding formulation to describe the system. In our model, the two rings are connected through a single bond and one of the rings is subjected to impurity, keeping the other ring as impurity free. In the str...

An experimental study was conducted to determine the effects of the leaching parameters on impurity ion concentrations of the liquid phase in ulexite leaching. Powdered ulexite ore was leached in an aqueous medium with sulfur dioxide. The Taguchi experimental design approach and statistical methods were used to evaluate the effects of the leaching parameters (solid/liquid ratio, temperature...

Single and double equilibrium bond lengths of the fcc-C60 crystal were calculated in the absence and presence of the endohedral C atom as an impurity doped into each C60 cluster, i.e., fcc-C@C60, by means of fully-relaxed self-consistent calculations within the density functtional theory (DFT) employing the full potential-augmented plane waves plus local orbital (FP-APW+lo) method. The result s...

In this paper, the electronic eigenstates and energy spectra of single and two-interacting electrons confined in a concentric double quantum rings with a perpendicular magnetic field in the presence of         on-center donor and acceptor impurities are calculated using the exact diagonalization method. For a single electron case, the binding energy of on-center donor and acceptor impurities ar...

We introduce real-time density matrix embedding theory (DMET), a dynamical quantum embedding theory for computing non-equilibrium electron dynamics in strongly correlated systems. As in the previously developed static DMET, real-time DMET partitions the system into an impurity corresponding to the region of interest coupled to the surrounding environment, which is efficiently represented by a q...

An approximate ground state of the Anderson-Friedel impurity problem is presented in a very compact form. It requires solely the optimization of two localized electron states and consists of four Slater states Slater determinants . The resulting singlet ground-state energy lies far below the Anderson mean-field solution and agrees well with the numerical results by Gunnarsson and Schönhammer, w...

The magnetic polarization induced by nonmagnetic impurities such as Zn in high Tc cuprate compounds is studied by the variational Monte Carlo simulation. The variational wave function is constructed from the eigenstates obtained from Bogoliubov de Gennes mean field Hamiltonian for the twodimensional t − J model. A Jastrow factor is introduced to account for the induced magnetic moment and the r...

Gas delivery from a liquid source, common in semiconductor manufacturing, raises contamination control concerns not only due to impurity levels in the source. In addition, the lower vapor pressure of impurity species compared to that of the host (source) species causes impurity concentrations in delivered gas to increase as the source is used up. A physics-based dynamic simulator to describe th...

Motivated by a recent experiment (CATANI J. et at., Phys. Rev. A, 85 (2012) 023623) we study breathing oscillations in the width of a harmonically trapped impurity interacting with a separately trapped Bose gas. We provide an intuitive physical picture of such dynamics at zero temperature, using a time-dependent variational approach. The amplitudes of breathing oscillations are suppressed by se...
