PURPOSE To report the incidence of orbital cellulitis after orbital blowout fracture. DESIGN Retrospective, noncomparative, interventional case series. PARTICIPANTS All patients with orbital cellulitis and a history of recent orbital fracture. METHODS A medical record review of clinical history, imaging studies, and surgical and treatment outcome was performed. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Res...
the present study describes clinical manifestation, histopathologic findings and differential diagnosis of a first-reported case of giant chondroid syringoma (cs) of the upper nasal orbital rim. a 35-yr-old man with cranial palsy (cp) and a tumor of 3×3×4 cm in the upper nasal orbital rim of the left eye was referred to the eye clinic. the tumor was reported to have developed gradually over the...
OBJECTIVE To determine if performing a superior cantholysis eases the surgical exposure, reduction, and rigid fixation of the zygomaticofrontal suture in the open repair of zygomatic complex (ZMC) fractures. PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifteen superior cantholysis procedures were used in 14 patients who presented with ZMC fractures requiring open reduction and internal fixation. Follow-up ranged fro...
The use of the lower eyelid transconjunctival approach in the setting of orbital trauma has becoming increasingly popular in recent years. However, experience has found that access to the lateral orbital rim can be somewhat limited with this type of incision. Many authors supplement the approach with a lateral canthotomy in order to gain adequate access laterally. Although usually well tolerate...
OBJECTIVES This study aims to investigate the epidemiological and operative characteristics of patients undergoing surgery for zygomatic fractures. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between May 2008 and October 2013, a total of 121 patients (98 males, 23 females; mean age 27 years; range, 9 to 63 years) who were operated for zygomatic fractures in our clinic were retrospectively analyzed. Age and sex of t...
BACKGROUND Resorbable anchors are widely used in arthroscopic stabilization of the shoulder as a means of soft tissue fixation to bone. Their function is to ensure repair stability until they are replaced by host tissue. Complications include inflammatory soft tissue reactions, cyst formation, screw fragmentation in the joint, osteolytic reactions, and enhanced glenoid rim susceptibility to fra...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The possible relationship of orbit deformities in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) to plexiform neurofibromas (PNFs) have not been fully elucidated. Our purpose was to review orbital changes in patients with craniofacial NF1. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed CT and MR imaging abnormalities of the orbit in 31 patients (18 male, 13 female; mean age, 14 years; age range 1...
Orbital involvement by multiple myeloma is rare. In this study, the authors report an unusual case of proptosis as the first clinical sign of multiple myeloma. The presence of an orbital lesion expanding and destroying the superior orbital rim, disclosed by computed tomography, lead us to consider multiple myeloma. Diagnostic and therapeutic aspects are discussed.
Shoulder instability after a posterior glenoid rim fracture is rare and potentially difficult pathology to treat. Operative techniques often involve a large dissection to view the fragments resulting in local soft tissue injury. Internal fixation is often achieved with interfragmentary screws; however, this may not be possible with small or multifragmentary fracture patterns. We describe an art...
