We prove that a Jordan homomorphism from a Banach algebra into a semisimple commutative Banach algebra is a ring homomorphism. Using a signum effectively, we can give a simple proof of the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of a Jordan homomorphism between Banach algebras. As a direct corollary, we show that to each approximate Jordan homomorphism f from a Banach algebra into a semisimple commutative...

The relationship between the Jordan forms of the matrix products AB and BA for some given A and B was first described by Harley Flanders in 1951. Their non-zero eigenvalues and non-singular Jordan structures are the same, but their singular Jordan block sizes can differ by 1. We present an elementary proof that owes its simplicity to a novel use of the Weyr characteristic.

We apply Shubin’s theory of global symbol classes Γρ to the Born-Jordan pseudodifferential calculus we have previously developed. This approach has many conceptual advantages and makes the relationship between the conflicting Born-Jordan and Weyl quantization methods much more limpid. We give, in particular, precise asymptotic expansions of symbols allowing us to pass from Born-Jordan quantizat...

In this paper we discuss algorithmic aspects of the computation of the Jordan canonical form. Inspired by the Golub & Wilkinson paper 9] on the computation of the Jordan canonical form, an O(n 3) algorithm was developed by Beelen & Van Dooren 3] for computing the Kronecker structure of an arbitrary pencil B ? A. Here we show how the ideas of this algorithm lead to a special algorithm for recons...

We show how to map local fermionic problems onto local spin problems on a lattice in any dimension. The main idea is to introduce auxiliary degrees of freedom, represented by Majorana fermions, which allow us to extend the Jordan–Wigner transformation to dimensions higher than one. We also discuss the implications of our results in the numerical investigation of fermionic systems.

Houston Lighting & Power Company (HUP) , Texas A&M University at Galveston and JTM Industries, Inc. initiated research in May 1988 and coordinated it with state and federal resource protection agencies to investigate the use of certain HL&P coal combustion by-products (CCBP) for enhancing and creating oyster reefs .* Initial research involved determining an optimum mix design based on compressi...

In this article, I discuss W.Kohn’s criterion for a metal insulator transition, within the framework of a one band Hubbard model. This and related ideas are applied to 1-dimensional Hubbard systems, and some intersting miscellaneous results discussed. The Jordan Wigner transformation converting the two species of fermions to two species of hardcore bosons is performed in detail, and the “extra ...

In a recent paper we have extended the classical Herstein's theorem on Jordan derivations on prime rings to Jordan superderivations on prime associative superalgebras. In the present paper we extend this result to semiprime associative superalgebras.

Jordan geometries are defined as spaces X equipped with point reflections Jxz a depending on triples of points (x, a, z), exchanging x and z and fixing a. In a similar way, symmetric spaces have been defined by Loos ([Lo69]) as spaces equipped with point reflections Sx fixing x, and therefore the theories of Jordan geometries and of symmetric spaces are closely related to each other – in order ...
