A simple geometrical method is described of calculating the retinal magnification factor (micrometres/degree) at the ora serrata of the human eye. At the ora the magnification factor is some 176 microns/deg., whereas at the posterior pole it is 276 microns/deg. This result may be of clinical use in examinations where dimensions of tears and holes near the ora serrata are estimated.
Three teeth of the shark Serratolamna serrata (Agassiz) from the Guinea Corn Formation (Central Inlier) represent the first recorded occurrence of fossil sharks from Cretaceous rocks of Jamaica. This occurrence increases the known palaeogeographical distribution of S. serrata, which appears to have been global. This species is largely known from the Upper Maastrichtian, which helps confirm the ...
The insect galls on the leaves of Zelkova serrata were formed by the aphid Colopha moriokaensis. The crude extracts of the gall-forming aphid showed hypertrophy-inducing activity against the cultured cells of Z. serrata. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the extracts led to isolation of three triacylglycerides containing (E,E, E)-octa-2,4,6-trienoic acid.
Introduction & Aim: The aim the present study is to examine the effects of Boswellia serrata Triana & Planch on (immune response) performance and carcass characteristic in broiler chicks. Experimental: In this study, 360 one day old chicks (Ross 308) were allocated to six treatments with four replicates in a completely randomized design for a six week period. Treatments consisted of ...
RETINAL detachment is sometimes due to retinal breaks anterior to the ora serrata in the pars plana ciliaris. This clinical feature has previously been reported by Schepens and Bahn (1950), Schepens (1951), Dobbie and Phillips (1962), and Cox, Schepens, and Freeman (1966) in relation to retinal detachment. Weidenthal and Schepens (1966), who were able to produce retinal breaks at the pars plana...
The resin of Boswellia species has been used as incense in religious and cultural ceremonies and in medicines since time immemorial. Boswellia serrata (Salai/Salai guggul), is a moderate to large sized branching tree of family Burseraceae (Genus Boswellia), grows in dry mountainous regions of India, Northern Africa and Middle East. Oleo gum-resin is tapped from the incision made on the trunk of...
Abstract Background and Objective: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women. Boswellia serrata is a medicinal herb with anticancer, antibacterial, antiulcer, antifungal properties. Since the antitumor effect of this medicine has not been studied on cancer cell lines, we aimed to investigate the antitumor effect of Boswellia serrata on cervical cancer cell lines. Material ...
Slow growth caused by viral diseases has become a major constraint in shrimp aquaculture. Laem-Singh virus (LSNV), a positive-sense single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) virus, has been identified in Penaeus monodon showing slow growth syndrome. To examine the host-range and transmission modes of the virus, 6 species of penaeid shrimp of varying life stages, sourced from the wild and from farms, as well ...
