Data sets containing values below the limit of detection (LOD) are known as ‘censored data sets’. Such data sets are encountered regularly in most fields of environmental contaminant research. The current norm within environmental radioactivity research is to use substitution methods when analysing data sets that include values below the LOD, commonly replacing each LOD value with a value equal...

The Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud has grown significantly in the past years. However, the integration of LOD into applications has not yet become mainstream because managing LOD for applications can be a challenging task and adapting (existing) applications for use with LOD is complicated. We have build a Linked Data Framework (LDF) that makes it easy for application administrators to integrate ...

BACKGROUND In epidemiologic research, little emphasis has been placed on methods to account for left-hand censoring of 'exposures' due to a limit of detection (LOD). METHODS We calculate the odds of anti-HIV therapy naiveté in 45 HIV-infected men as a function of measured log(10) plasma HIV RNA viral load using five approaches including ad hoc methods as well as a maximum likelihood estimate ...

As the size of Linked Open Data (LOD) increases, the search and access to the relevant LOD resources becomes more challenging. To overcome search difficulties, we propose a novel concept-based search mechanism for the Web of Data (WoD) based on UMBEL concept hierarchy and fuzzy-based retrieval model. The proposed search mechanism groups LOD resources with the same concepts to form categories, w...

We report analyses of a Brazilian study of early onset schizophrenia (BEOS) families. We genotyped 22 members of 4 families on a linkage SNP array and report here non-parametric linkage analyses using MERLIN® software. We found suggestive evidence for linkage on two chromosomal regions, 13q32 and 11p15.4. A LOD score of 2.71 was observed at 13q32 with a one LOD interval extending from 60.63-92....

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune multisystem inflammatory disease characterized by the production of pathogenic autoantibodies. Previous genetic studies have suggested associations with HLA Class II alleles, complement gene deficiencies, and Fc receptor polymorphisms; however, it is likely that other genes contribute to SLE susceptibility and pathogenesis. Here, we report the...

* Limit of Blank (LoB), Limit of Detection (LoD), and Limit of Quantitation (LoQ) are terms used to describe the smallest concentration of a measurand that can be reliably measured by an analytical procedure. * LoB is the highest apparent analyte concentration expected to be found when replicates of a blank sample containing no analyte are tested. LoB = mean(blank) + 1.645(SD(blank)). * LoD is ...

Linked Open Data (LOD) plays an increasingly important role in the area of digital libraries and archives. It enables better semantic-based access methods and also gives the human reader more insights into linked entities. Since semantics is evolving over time, the temporal dimension has an increasing impact on the applicability of LOD to long-term archives. LOD does not necessarily provide a h...

More than half of the world population lives in cities today. This proportion rises to 80% in developed countries. The density of urban population causes environmental troubles such as noise, urban heat waves, and chemical pollutions or magnetic pollution. Sensors and models are used to improve knowledge related to these phenomena particularly in cities. The aim of our research is to propose me...

The Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud is expanding continuously. Entities appear, change, and disappear over time. However, relatively little is known about the dynamics of the entities, i. e., the characteristics of their temporal evolution. In this paper, we employ clustering techniques over the dynamics of entities to determine common temporal patterns. We define an entity as RDF resource togethe...
