One of the most challenging problems in ATM network design is providing diversiied Quality of Service (QoS) to applications with distinct characteristics. A exible priority service policy for two applications (classes) with strict-and in general distinct-deadlines and diierent deadline violation rates (loss rates) is studied in this paper. The proposed policy is a generalization of the Shortest...

The performance of rate adaptive multimedia streaming applications is impacted by the accuracy of determining the level of network congestion, and by the control mechanism used to adapt the sending rate to the available network bandwidth. The focus of this paper is on the use of fuzzy logic for congestion avoidance and control of networked video, in combination of using delay as a network conge...

In this paper we propose an analytical model to evaluate the end-to-end loss and delay characteristics for live multicast streaming. We consider multiple-tree architectures and push based transmission. We give an asymptotic bound on the performance of large overlays, and present a necessary condition for the overlay to be stable. Based on the model we show how the overlay’s loss characteristics...

In this paper we exploit a model of a single TCP source introduced in [1] to show the dependence of the scaling properties of the TCP throughput on the correlation structure of the Round Trip Times (RTTs) and of the packet losses. The source works according to the most common TCP mechanisms, i.e. slow-start, congestion avoidance and exponential back-off retransmission timer. The innovation of t...

Imaging systems based on terahertz time-domain spectroscopy offer a range of unique modalities due to the broad bandwidth, sub-picosecond duration, and phasesensitive detection of the THz pulses. Furthermore, an exciting possibility exists to combine spectroscopic characterization and/or identification with imaging because the radiation is broadband in nature. In order to achieve this, novel me...

We propose different concepts of mechanically reconfigurable true-time-delay phase shifters using micro-actuators at millimeter-waves (MMW). The mechanical reconfiguration allows to achieve phase shift reconfiguration with very low losses. One of the proposed concepts has been fully implemented and tested, demonstrating state-of-the-art performance in terms of phase-shift/loss ratio.

The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technique provides a flexible and effective scheme to transport traffic generated by a variety of services with different quality of service (QOS) requirements. To fully utilize network resources while still providing satisfactory QOS to all network users, prioritizing different traffic according to their service requirement becomes necessary. During the cal...

Ad hoc networks have gained place in the research area recently. There are many researches regarding different topics related to such networks, such as routing, media access control, security, scalability, and many others. There are two usual methods to test and evaluate the performance of ad hoc networks: simulations and real test-bed. A network emulator is a tradeoff between pure simulation a...

LAN interconnection is expected to be the rst service ooered by ATM based B-ISDN. Since traac on the current LANs is connectionless and bursty, the main challenge will be to provide an eecient con-nectionless service over connection oriented ATM network. One of the methods proposed for transporting bursty LAN traac over ATM is to set up an ATM connection upon arrival of a burst and close the co...
