This paper studies the evolution of life satisfaction over the life course in Germany. It clarifies the causal interpretation of the econometric model by discussing the choice of control variables and the underidentification between age, cohort and time effects. The empirical part analyzes the distribution of life satisfaction over the life course at the aggregated, subgroup and individual leve...
In October 2008, the Department of Justice approved the Delta/Northwest merger, claiming the potential for substantial cost efficiencies with little or no harmful effects on competition. What makes this merger particularly interesting is that Delta and Northwest are codeshare partners. As such, the merger could have varying effects across different product types (pure online versus codeshare). ...
We estimate an econometric model of coca production in Colombia. Our results indicate that coca eradication is an ineffective means of supply control as farmers compensate by cultivating the crop more extensively. The evidence further suggests that incentives to produce legal substitute crops may have greater supplyreducing potential than eradication.

We document that distant commercial real estate buyers pay, on average, a premium relative to local buyers, controlling for individual property characteristics as well as time fixed-effects. We test the extent to which the sources of these observed premiums are a product of higher search costs/informa...

In this paper, we examine the statistical forecast accuracy of econometric models, surveys and futures rates in predicting the LIBOR-Federal Funds Rate (LIBOR-FF) spread during and after the financial crisis. We provide evidence that the futures market forecast outperforms all competing forecasts during and after the financial crisis. Our results also suggest that the predictive accuracy of the...
Increasing evidence from the empirical economic and psychological literature suggests that positive and negative well-being are more than opposite ends of the same phenomenon. Two separate measures of the dependent variable may be needed when analyzing the determinants of subjective well-being. We argue that this conclusion reflects in part the use of too restrictive econometric models. A flexi...
