An extended polypyrazolyl ligand has been used to assemble Mn ions into high spin entities, in the form of one stable molecule composed of two well defined clusters. The slow relaxation of the magnetisation observed is demonstrated to arise from each "half-SMM" composing this molecular cluster pair.

Taking the pseudobinary C15 Laves phase compound Ce(Fe0.96Al0.04)2 as a paradigm for studying a ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition, we present interesting thermomagnetic history effects in magnetotransport as well as magnetisation measurements across this phase transition. A comparison is made with history effects observed across the ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic transitio...

[U(Tp(Me2))2(bipy˙)], a uranium(III) complex with a radical bipyridine ligand which has magnetic properties with contributions from both the ligand and the metal, presents slow relaxation of the magnetisation at low temperatures, already under zero static magnetic field, and energy barriers slightly above the non-radical analogues.

A phase diagram of the anisotropic Heisenberg model with competition between the nearest and the next-to-nearest neighbour exchange interactions is investigated by using thc bosonisation scheme. An instability leading to a spontaneous dimerisation is found. The new 'superfluid' phases with both non-zero, though non-nominal, Z-magnetisation and broken symmetry in the XY-plane are detected in the...

A new heterodinuclear [Zn(L)Dy](3+) complex, with L being a compartmental Schiff base ligand, exhibits the characteristic Dy(3+) luminescence associated with a single-ion field induced slow relaxation of the magnetisation. This complex may be considered as one of the rare examples of a bifunctional luminescent single-ion magnet.

– We report an Inelastic Neutron Scattering (INS) study of the fully deuterated molecular compound K6[V IV 15 As6O42]·9D2O (V15). Due to geometrical frustration, the essential physics at low temperatures of the V15 cluster containing 15 coupled V 4+ (S=1/2) is determined by three weakly coupled spin-1/2 on a triangle. The INS spectra at low-energy allow us to directly determine the effective ex...

A Dy6 complex composed of two Dy3 triangular units, [Dy6(μ3-OH)(CO3)3(bsc)3(MeOH)14(H2O)](Cl)5·(H2O)·(MeOH)2 (1), was isolated and found to exhibit slow relaxation of the magnetisation under zero applied dc field, resulting in a high energetic barrier to relaxation.

On directed Barabási-Albert networks with two and seven neighbours selected by each added site, the Ising model was seen not to show a spontaneous magnetisation. Instead, the decay time for flipping of the magnetisation followed an Arrhenius law for Metropolis and Glauber algorithms, but for Wolff cluster flipping the magnetisation decayed exponentially with time. On these networks the Majority...
