This paper reports a patient with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome who presented with a tachycardia showing an unusual QRS morphology closely resembling that of a ventricular tachycardia. On reversal to a normal rhythm the electrocardiogram showed changes of a type A preexcitation, with subsequent conversion to a type B pattern. This phenomenon was observed on two separate occasions. Such convers...

This article discusses a patient with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome who recently underwent surgical ablation of her accessory pathway at West Virginia University Health Sciences Center. Surgical cure of this arrhythmia is possible in a high percentage of cases and should be strongly considered for those with life-threatening arrhythmias or poorly controlled symptoms.

T HE electrocardiographic pattern of short P-R interval and prolonged QRS with a normal P-S (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, pre-excitation) has fascinated physicians since its description by Wolff, Parkinson, and White in 1930.1 Many theories have been advanced and numerous studies reported in an effort to explain this particular electrocardiographic pattern.2-4 Of the many concepts proposed, ...

We perform Monte Carlo simulations using the Wolff cluster algorithm of the XY model on both fixed and dynamical phi-cubed graphs (i.e. without and with coupling to two-dimensional quantum gravity). We compare the numerical results with the theoretical expectation that the phase transition remains of KT type when the XY model is coupled to gravity. We also examine whether the universality we di...

The thyroid, the largest gland in the endocrine system, secretes hormones that help promote bodily growth and development. This gland regulates hormonal secretion rate in spite of changes in dietary iodine which is a key ingredient in the hormone's biosynthesis. The thyroid relies on several feedback mechanisms for this regulation, and in this paper we use recent molecular-level and clinical ob...
