The connection between general moment conditions and the applicability of strong laws of large numbers for a sequence of identically distributed ρ-mixing random variables are obtained. The results obtained generalize the result of Petrov (1996, Statist. Probab. Lett. 26, 377-380) to ρ-mixing sequences and NA sequences.

Modular structural systems are constructed using a method that they are assembled with prefabricated unit modular frames on-site. This provides a benefit that can significantly reduce building construction time. The structural design is usually carried out under the assumption that their load-carrying mechanism is similar to that of traditional steel moment-resisting systems. However, both syst...

OF THE DISSERTATION Application of the discrete moment problem for numerical integration and solution of a special type of moment problems by Mariya Naumova Dissertation Director: András Prékopa We present a brief survey of some of the basic results related to the classical continuous moment problems (CMP) and the recently developed discrete moment problems (DMP), clarifying their relationship....

An algorithm for a Pick-Nevanlinna problem where the interpolation points coalesce into a finite set of points on the real line is introduced, its connection with certain multipoint Padé approximation problems is discussed, and the results are used to obtain the solutions of an extended Hamburger moment problem.

We consider the non-definite linear functionals Ln[f ] = ∫ IR w(x)f (n)(x) dx and prove the nonexistence of orthogonal polynomials, with all zeros real, in several cases. The proofs are based on the connection with moment preserving spline approximation.

Steel pallet rack (SPR) beam-to-column connections (BCCs) are largely responsible to avoid the sway failure of frames in the down-aisle direction. The overall geometry of beam end connectors commercially used in SPR BCCs is different and does not allow a generalized analytic approach for all types of beam end connectors; however, identifying the effects of the configuration, profile and sizes o...

One of the typically damaged steel beam-column connection during the Northridge earthquake of 1994 was bolted-web, welded-flange (BWWF), now known as “pre-Northridge” connection. Proposed post-Northridge connections are more ductile and capable of dissipating more energy, thus improving the behavior of steel moment resisting frames (SMRF). The post-Northridge connections with added ductility wi...

We extend the numerical renormalization-group method to Bose-Fermi Kondo models (BFKMs), describing a local moment coupled to a conduction band and a dissipative bosonic bath. We apply the method to the Ising-symmetry BFKM with a bosonic bath spectral function eta(omega) proportional omega(s), of interest in connection with heavy-fermion criticality. For 0 < s < 1, an interacting critical point...
