We report a case in which chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) developed after postoperative adjuvant S-1 therapy for rectal cancer. A 56-year-old man was diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma, which was treated with abdominoperineal resection followed by a year of adjuvant S-1 therapy. At 39 postoperative months, he was diagnosed with CML. Although it remains unclear that CML that develops after ...

Acute myelogenous leukemias, and perhaps many other cancers, are maintained by a population of cancer stem cells that can regenerate themselves as well as give rise to more differentiated and less proliferative cells that constitute the bulk of the disease. Recent discoveries have shed light on both the nature of leukemia stem cells (LSC) and their cells of origin. Here, we review which hematop...

Antibody-drug conjugates are increasingly being used for cancer therapy, but little is known about their ability to promote anticancer immunity, which may lead to long-lasting remissions. We investigated the therapeutic effect of antibody-based pharmacodelivery of cemadotin, a cytotoxic drug, and IL2, a strong proinflammatory cytokine. Using the F8 antibody, which selectively localizes to the t...

isolated extramedullary relapse of chronic myelogenous leukemia (cml) after allogeneic stem cell transplant is rare. there is a case report of a child who developed a granulocytic sarcoma of the maxillary and sphenoid sinuses and lumbosacral spinal cord mass 18 months after allogeneic bone marrow transplant for cml. he was presented with per orbital edema and neurological deficit of lower extre...

INTRODUCTION Chronic myelogenous leukemia is often treated using tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as dasatinib. Here we describe a rare case of inflammatory myopathy in a patient with chronic myelogenous leukemia treated with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor dasatinib. CASE PRESENTATION A 69-year-old Caucasian man with imatinib-resistant chronic myelogenous leukemia achieved complete molecular re...

We report an unusual case of granulocytic sarcoma involving the temporal bone. The occurrence of this tumor usually heralds acute myelogenous leukemia or the onset of the blastic phase of chronic myelogenous leukemia. Recognition of this rare entity is important, because early aggressive chemotherapy can cause regression of the tumor, as in our case, and thus improve patient longevity.

A permanent human cell line that maintains the granulocytic characteristics of acute myelogenous leukemia cells has been established. The cells of this line form myeloid colonies in soft gel culture in the presence of human colony-stimulating activity. The cell line may be useful for studying human acute myelogenous leukemia and the mechanism of response to colony-stimulating activity.

A human myeloid cell line with trisomy 8 was newly established from overt myelogenous leukemia arising in myelodysplastic syndrome. The cells of this cell line showed immature myelocyte characteristics. The karyotype retained trisomy 8. This cell line could improve understanding of the pathophysiology of myelogenous leukemia with trisomy 8.

Cytogenetic studies were carried out on 103 unselected patients with acute mye-logenous leukemia (AML) at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health. Seventy-three patients (70.9%) had a normal karyotype and 30 patients (29.1%) were aneuploid. No unique chromosomal abnormalities were found in patients with aneuploidy; however, there was a significantly higher incidence of G group ...
