Triplet energy transfer (TT), a key process in molecular and organic electronics, generally occurs by either strongly distance-dependent single-step tunneling or weakly distance-dependent multistep hopping. We have synthesized a series of pi-stacked molecules consisting of a benzophenone donor, one to three fluorene bridges, and a naphthalene acceptor, and studied the rate of TT from benzopheno...

In the title compound, C(18)H(11)Br(2)ClO(3), an intra-molecular O-H⋯O=C hydrogen bond occurs, forming a six-membered ring. The naphthalene ring system and the benzene ring make a dihedral angle of 57.36 (9)°. The central carbonyl C-(C=O)-C group is twisted away from the naphthalene ring system and the benzene ring by 18.61 (15) and 26.25 (16)°, respectively. In the crystal structure, two inter...

The title compound, C(18)H(12)N(2)O, crystallizes in a zwitterionic form. The dihedral angle between the planes of the benzene ring and naphthalene ring system is 13.95 (5)°. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O inter-action results in the formation of a planar six-membered ring, which is oriented at dihedral angles of 13.50 (4) and 4.49 (4)° with respect to the benzene ring and naphthalene ring system, re...

Predicting ground- and excited-state properties of open-shell organic molecules by electronic structure theory can be challenging because an accurate treatment has to correctly describe both static and dynamic electron correlation. Strongly correlated systems, i.e., systems with near-degeneracy correlation effects, are particularly troublesome. Multiconfigurational wave function methods based o...

A series of compounds based on the angular-shaped naphthalene tetracarboxylic diimide core have been synthesized, characterized and used as active layers of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). The fabricated OFET devices exhibit n-type semiconducting characteristics, demonstrating the first examples of semiconductors based on angular-shaped naphthalene tetracarboxylic diimides.

Naphthalene diimide (NDI) bolaamphiphilic molecules (1) self-assemble in water to form organic nanoparticles, which exhibit self-assembly induced preassociated excimer formation and hence an enhanced green fluorescence.

A mild and versatile one-pot synthesis of core-expanded naphthalene diimides has been developed, which undergoes a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction and then an imidization reaction, allowing an easy and low-cost access to diverse n-type organic materials. Some newly synthesized compounds by this one-pot operation exhibited high electron mobility of up to 0.70 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) in amb...
