Pseudomonas stutzeri strain 19 is a Gram-negative bacterium capable of degrading aromatic hydrocarbons. The draft genome of P. stutzeri 19 is estimated to be 5.1 Mb, containing 4,652 protein-coding genes and a G+C content of 63.3%. Multiple genes responsible for the degradation of aromatics are present in this strain.

A newly isolated bacterium, Pseudomonas geniculata N1, can efficiently degrade nicotine. Here we present a 4.51-Mb assembly of its genome, which is the first sequence of the P. geniculata group. The sequence contains the genes related to nicotine catabolism and may provide insights into its molecular mechanism for N-heterocyclic degradation.

Incubation of racemic mixtures of dl-(+/-)-nicotine with Pseudomonas putida resulted in a complete stereoselective degradation of the l-(-) isomer. Unnatural d-(+)-nicotine, which is of pharmacological interest for stereochemical studies of various nicotine-responsive systems, was not affected by the bacterium and was recovered by extraction.

In this study, we present the draft genome sequence of the bacterial strain Pseudomonas chlororaphis PCL1601. This bacterium was isolated from the rhizosphere of healthy avocado trees and displayed antagonistic and biological control activities against different soilborne phytopathogenic fungi and oomycetes.

The completely sequenced 5.5-Mb genome reveals genes that putatively contribute to this antagonistic activity and the intimate plant-microbe interaction.
