Using multiple temporally-overlapped, frequency offset and phase-tuned, linear frequency chirps, a new method of multi-GHz optical coherent transient optical pulse shaping and processing in inhomogeneously broadened rare-earth doped crystals is proposed. Using this technique with properly chirped laser sources, multi-GHz processing can be controlled with conventional low-bandwidth electronics a...

DS-CDMA is evaluated for rectangular pulse shaping and square root raised cosine pulses with different roll off factors. Rectangular pulses are found to be better even with close adjacent channels. With synchronization error in the order of 10% of a chip interval, square root raised cosine pulses outperform the rectangular pulse.

In this article we obtain estimates on the approximate eigenstructure of channels with a spreading function supported only on a set of finite measure |U |. Because in typical application like wireless communication the spreading function is a random process corresponding to a random Hilbert–Schmidt channel operator H we measure this approximation in terms of the ratio of the p–norm of the devia...

This study further investigates the complete-basis-functions parameterization method (CBFP) for Evolution Strategies (ES), and its application to a challenging real-life high-dimensional physics optimization problem, namely Femtosecond Laser Pulse Shaping. The CBFP method, which was introduced recently for tackling efficiently the learning task of n-variables functions, is combined here, for th...

We evaluate new interference suppression method that utilizes the effect of asynchronous accesses in wireless telecommunication. The method is called as asynchronous channels (ACL), which can be applied to one of the present third generation standards, wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) systems. The simulation result shows that the system capacity gains up by 145% in band-unlimited...

We present a novel direct space-to-time pulse shaper, operating in the 1.5m optical communications band which enables generation of continuous optical pulse sequences at a rate of 100GHz. The apparatus includes several novel features, such as the use of a diffractive optical element for spatial patterning, fiber coupled input/output, and a telescopic configuration which collectively enable gene...

GFDM is a new modulation format whose advantages compared to OFDM reportedly make it a preferable modulation format for 5G. However, the non-orthogonal nature of GFDM with matched filtering (MF) receiver for pulses with good time-frequency localization is one of its disadvantages, leading to the proposal of WCP-COQAM, employing offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM). In this paper, we pr...

A novel approach to photonic generation of phase-coded microwave signals based on optical pulse shaping and time delay is proposed. In the proposed approach, an optical short pulse train is inserted with a specified amount of time-delay to certain pulses, and then converted into super-Gaussian microwave pulses based on the optical pulse shaping technique. By properly adjusting the time-delay, p...

Two design procedures, one based on switched pulse shapes, and the other based on alternating projections in the time and frequency domain, are used to obtain interference and jitter-free or reduced interference and jitter (near-Nyquist) pulse-shaping filters. The latter method, that incorporates both frequencyand timedomain constraints into the linear filter design procedure, allows common pul...

A distributed transversal filter (DTF) is a good candidate for adaptive processing of ultrafast pulses in wideband systems. In this study, we investigate DTFs for sub-nanosecond pulse shaping and synthesis using standard CMOS technologies. A 5-tap DTF was designed using LC artificial transmission lines. A pulse synthesis algorithm was developed for DTFs. A prototype was fabricated using a stand...
