OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography for the diagnosis of congenital obstructive aortic arch anomalies in children and compare it with transthoracic echocardiography and other MR imaging techniques (ECG gated T1-weighted spin-echo imaging and gradient-echo cine imaging). MATERIALS AND METHODS Contrast-enhanced mag...
We report the case of a 13 yr old, asymptomatic girl with agenesis of the right pulmonary artery. In the context of a tuberculosis survey in her school, an X-ray examination disclosed a decreased volume of the right lung. Ventilation and perfusion scans and digital substraction angiography established the diagnosis.
Conversion factors, which relate the kerma-area product to effective dose, have been estimated for paediatric cardiac x-ray angiography. Monte Carlo techniques have been used to calculate the conversion factors for a wide range of projection angles for children of five ages and for adults. Correction factors are provided so that the conversion factors can be adjusted for different tube potentia...
Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is a well established procedure with current precise indications. The advent and spread of this technique was possible after the introduction of the coronary angiogram. Although many evaluation methods have been developed in the past years, to date, none have been able to replace the invasive coronary angiogram as a pre-operative exam. Computed tomography ang...
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Coronary angiography is the gold standard for the study of coronary artery disease. This technique requires several orthogonal projections. Rotational angiography is a new technique which involves pre-set rotation of the X-ray tube around the patient and allows visualization of each coronary artery in different views, using a single contrast injection. The purpose of...
Digital Subtractive Angiography (DSA) has been performed to image human coronary arteries using wiggler radiation from electron storage rings. The significant medical promise of this procedure motivates the development of smaller and less costly x-ray sources. Several exotic sources are candidates for consideration, using effects such as Cherenkov, channeling, coherent bremsstrahlung, laser bac...
Research focused on the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular disease is progressing rapidly.1 Radiology has always played a central diagnostic role, particularly in the coronary vessels. A technique for selectively catheterizing the coronary arteries was developed in 1959, and conventional x-ray coronary angiography is still considered the gold standard for detecting c...
An anterior mediastinal haematoma and left haemothorax developed in a hypertensive diabetic patient on oral anticoagulant therapy. This occurred in spite of well-controlled anticoagulation and the absence of other evidence of systemic bleeding. Angiography and daily chest X-ray follow-up were not only sufficient to confirm the diagnosis, but also avoided hazardous interventional procedures.
Coronary arteriovenous fistulas are among rare anomalies of coronary arteries. Role of X-ray angiography is well established in identification and characterization of these anomalies, however there accurate course and termination is often not defined. We demonstrate role of routine cardiovascular MRI in non-invasively diagnosing and characterizing the course and termination of these anomalous c...
OBJECTIVES the purpose of the present study was to directly compare the diagnostic accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multislice computed tomography (CT) for the detection of coronary artery stenosis. BACKGROUND both imaging modalities have emerged as potential noninvasive coronary imaging modalities; however, CT-unlike MRI-exposes patients to radiation and iodinated contrast ag...
