Citrus fruits contain two groups of flavonoid glycosides that have either rutinose (L-rhamnopyranosyl-ct-1,6-glucopyranoside) or neohesperidose (L-rhamnopyranosyl-:-1.2glucopyranosiele) as their saccharide components. Flavonoid rutinosides such as hesperidin. from mandarin oranges, are tasteless, and on the other hand, flavonoid neohesperidosides such as neohesperidin and naringin, from grapefr...

The synthesis of new dendrons of the generations 0, 1 and 2 with a double bond at the focal point and a carbonyl group at the termini has been carried out. The carbonyl group has been exploited for the multivalent conjugation to a sample saccharide by reductive amination and alkoxyamine conjugation.

Chthoniobacter flavus Ellin428 is the first isolate from the class Spartobacteria of the bacterial phylum Verrucomicrobia. C. flavus Ellin428 can metabolize many of the saccharide components of plant biomass but is incapable of growth on amino acids or organic acids other than pyruvate.

Many processes mediated by protein-carbohydrate interactions involve multivalent low-affinity binding, which is inherently difficult to study. New structural templates for the generation of multivalent carbohydrate displays have recently been developed, and tailored multivalent saccharide derivatives can now be used to study and modulate a wide variety of biological recognition events.

In this study, a novel dimer-forming cyclic peptide composed exclusively by cyclic γ-amino acids with a saccharide-like outer surface is described. The antiparallel β-sheet type hydrogen bonding interactions responsible for the large association constant in non-polar solvents constitute a suitable model for a novel class of self-assembling peptide nanotubes.
