In this paper, we employ a four-state hidden semi-Markov model, which outperforms Markov to identify market conditions of the US stock over daily period from 16th February, 1885 4th June, 2020. Our results indicate that four states represent bear-, bull-, sidewalk-, and crash-markets, in turn appropriately capture various major historical events during study.
