and Applied Analysis 3 Remark 1.5. If f x /x is increasing on I and 1.6 holds, then the Petrović-type functional P1 is nonnegative, that is, inequality 1.4 is valid. Conversely, if f x /x is increasing on I and conditions as in 1.7 are fulfilled, then relation 1.5 holds. In order to define another Petrović-type functional, we cite the following Petrović-type inequality involving a convex functi...

Let S be a finite set with some rank function r such that the Whitney numbers w i = I { x e S I r ( x ) = i}l are log-concave. Given k, me N so that Wk-1 < Wk <~ Wk+m, set W = w k + w k + 1 + "'" + Wk + ~" Generalizing a theorem of Kleitman and Milner, we prove that every F ~ S with cardinality IFI/> Whas average rank at least ( k w k + ... + (k + m)wk+m)/W, provided the normalized profile vect...

In the problem of the month 1999 : 106], one was to prove that p a + b ; c + p b + c ; a + p c + a ; b p a + p b + p c , where a, b, c are sides of a triangle. It is to be noted that this inequality will follow immediately from the Majorization Inequality 1]. Here, if A and B are vectors (a 1 a 2 : : : a n), we say that A majorizes B and write it as A B. Then, if F is a convex function, If F is...

holds. This double inequality is known in the literature as Hermite-Hadamard integral inequality for convex functions. Note that some of the classical inequalities for means can be derived from (1.1) for appropriate particular selections of the mapping f . Both inequalities hold in the reversed direction if f is concave. For some results which generalize, improve and extend the inequalities (1....

The aim of this work is to show a Berwald type inequality for the extremal universal integrals based on (α ,m) concave function. Some examples are given to illustrate the validity of these inequalities.

A variant of Jessen’s inequality for superquadratic functions is proved. This is a refinement of a variant of Jessen’s inequality of Mercer’s type for convex functions. The result is used to refine some comparison inequalities of Mercer’s type between functional power means and between functional quasi-arithmetic means.

We give the proof of a tight lower bound on the probability that a binomial random variable exceeds its expected value. The inequality plays an important role in a variety of contexts, including the analysis of relative deviation bounds in learning theory and generalization bounds for unbounded loss functions.
