Most cases of non-necrotising scleritis can be successfully treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If these are ineffective, then high-dose systemic corticosteroids, with all their attendant side-effects, are usually required. We have used orbital floor injections of depot steroid in the management of nine patients with non-necrotising scleritis in an attempt to avoid the use of sy...

It is difficult to estimate the efficacy of the various treatments and impact of prognostic factors for ISSHL because the natural history of ISSHL is still unknown (Fetterman et al., 1996). There have been many studies reported the effect of various treatment including systemic corticosteroids, tympanic corticosteroids injection, antiviral, anticoagulant, and vitamin etc. on ISSHL, but the resu...

[1], wherein the authors presented the hypothesis that nebulised budesonide might be an alternative to systemic corticosteroids in the treatment of patients with exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Topical corticosteroids were introduced into medicine about 50 years ago. They represent a significant milestone in dermatologic therapy. Despite encouragement to report observed adverse drug reactions, the clinical practice of reporting is poor and incomplete. Likewise, adverse effects and safety of topical corticosteroids are neglected in the medical literature. The authors provide an updated...

We present an interesting case of pemphigus vulgaris with severe and rare eye manifestations. An old lady with systemic and ocular manifestations of pemphigus vulgaris was treated with systemic corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, with no effect. Subconjunctival injection of triamcinolone acetate reduced the ocular signs and led to gradual reduction of the systemic medications.

Increased intraocular pressure and glaucoma following corticosteroid therapy are well known issues for the ophthalmologist for more than 50 years. Corticosteroids use has gained popularity in ophthalmology as anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic agents but can have important consequences and should be used only with judicious monitoring. The therapeutic use of corticosteroids can lead to the dev...
