Congenital factor X deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive bleeding disorder that presents with variable bleeding tendency and prolonged coagulation tests, prothrombin time, and partial thromboplastin time. Thromboembolic events have not been reported in patients with factor X deficiency yet. Herein, we report a patient with factor X deficiency who had recurrent venous thromboembolic events.
BACKGROUND Although physical activity has generally been associated with reduced risk of vascular disease, there is limited evidence about the effects of the frequency and duration of various activities on the incidence of particular types of vascular disease. METHODS AND RESULTS In 1998, on average, 1.1 million women without prior vascular disease reported their frequency of physical activit...
Remarkable advances have occurred over the past 2 decades in the diagnostic approach, surgical management, and postoperative care of patients afflicted with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Despite these advances, a great deal needs to be achieved if the morbidity and mortality of the disease process are to be reduced further. First, the preliminary insights that have been achieve...
Many studies have shown that hyperhomocysteinemia may be an independent risk factor for thromboembolic disease. However, the results among studies and populations have not been consistent. Furthermore, the possible mechanisms of hyperhomocysteinemia in vascular diseases are controversial. Mutations in the MTHFR (5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) gene, resulting in rising levels of plasm...
The effects ofpulmonary hypertension on cardiopulmonary function were investigated by ventilatory, haemodynamic, and metabolic studies at rest and during exercise. The studies were carried out in 12 patients with primary, thromboembolic, or residual pulmonary hypertension after surgical closure of intracardiac defects, and in II patients with pulmonary hypertension secondary to obstructive lung...
Tuberculosis (TB) is considered a risk factor for thromboembolic venous disease (VTE). The prevalence of this association ranges from 0.6% to 10%. This work aims analyze the epidemiological and clinical aspects therapeutic management VTE during tuberculosis discuss diagnostic especially particularities association.
OBJECTIVE To determine the incidence of venous thromboembolic disease in children of Chinese origin, and associated predisposing factors. DESIGN. Retrospective case series. SETTING A general, public hospital serving a population of approximately 181,000 children in Hong Kong. PATIENTS AND METHODS Hong Kong Chinese children under the age of 15 years who were diagnosed with a symptomatic veno...
Pulmonary thromboembolism falls between the areas of pulmonology and cardiology, internal medicine and intensive care, radiology and nuclear medicine, and hematology and cardiothoracic surgery. Depending on their clinical background, physicians faced with a patient with a pulmonary thromboembolism may speak different languages and adopt different treatment approaches. Now, however, there is an ...
Objectives. To compare the effectiveness of postcesarean thromboprophylaxis with two different regimens of bemiparin. Material and Methods. The study included 646 women with cesarean delivery in our hospital within a 1-year period, randomly assigned to one of two groups for prophylaxis with 3500 IU bemiparin once daily for 5 days or 3500 IU bemiparin once daily for 10 days. Results. There was o...
