Reliable stabilization of linear time-invariant multiinput/multi-output plants is considered using a two-channel decentralized controller configuration. Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for existence of reliable controllers that maintain stability under the possible failure of either one of the two controllers. All decentralized controllers that achieve reliable stabilization ar...

The purpose of this talk is to outline an approach to the synthesis of controllers and lters in the behavioral frame work The main advantage is that the results obtained this way are representation independent with all the algorithmic advan tages that this entails The aim is to explain the solution of the problem discussed below but before doing so a number of back ground concepts need to be in...

Motivated by the design of observers with good performance and robustness to measurement noise, the problem of estimating the state of a linear time-invariant system in finite time and robustly with respect to measurement noise is considered. Using a hybrid systems framework, a hybrid observer producing an estimate that converges to the plant state in finite time, even under unknown piecewise-c...

We attack the problem of perfect equalizability of multi-user channels, in which the usual linear time-invariant assumption is dismissed. In the linear, time-invariant case, condition for perfect equalizability is plain and expressed in terms of the column rank of the channel’s transfer matrix. Using the module-theoretic approach developped by Fliess, in which the transfer matrix of a time-vary...

—We develop a framework for model selection, using structured and unstructured linear time invariant control models, to describe human motor behavior for individual trials of a compensatory tracking experiment. We develop new metrics for quantifying performance and learning across trials using state space model parameters. Changes in metric parameter values obtained from the control model estim...

We prove several results majorizing the sequences of Kronecker and/or Jordan indices obtainable after small perturbations to a given matrix pencil. The proofs are simple consequences of a theory of majorization for semi-innnite integer sequences, developed in this paper. In particular , new simple bounds are proved on the indices obtainable after appending a single row or column to a matrix pen...

In this paper, model sets for linear time-invariant discrete-time systems spanned by fixed orthonormal bases are studied. It is shown that the Fourier series of the system transfer function with respect to these bases converges uniformly on the unit circle if the frequency response of the system is Dini-Lipschitz continuous.

In this paper we prove that the same design method of constant controllers for a delay systems given in the literature can be used to stabilize a minimum phase systems with nonlinearly correlated perturbations in the coefficients. This type of perturbation is induced by the composition with strictly positive real functions. This result can also be interpreted on the context of simultaneous and ...

The paper presents the basic concepts, mathematical and design aspects of sliding mode control. It is shown that the main advantages of sliding mode control are order reduction, decoupling design procedures, disturbance rejection, insensitivity to parameter variations, simple implementation by means of conventional power converters. The methods of suppressing chattering, caused by discrete-time ...

Reliable stabilizing controller design with integral-action is considered for linear time-invariant, multi-input–multi-output decentralized systems with stable plants. Design methods are proposed to achieve reliable closed-loop stability with integral-action in each output channel for asymptotic tracking of step-input references applied at each input. The design approaches guarantee stability a...
