One of the most important concerns of patients is the need for orthodontic treatment, is the long duration of treatment and pain and discomfort during treatment. Also, long duration of treatment, is associated with increased caries risk, root resorption and gingival recession. Reducing the duration of treatment reduces the complications of orthodontic treatments and at the same time increases p...

This study evaluated factors that affected pulpectomy (PE) success and its effect on the succedaneous tooth's eruption and enamel formation. Sixty-five of 250 patients with PEs met the selection criteria and yielded 81 zinc oxide-eugenol PEs (30 incisors, 51 molars) followed a mean time of 90.8 months. Overall PE success was 77.7% with no difference between molars and incisors (P = 0.53). Ename...

Internal resorption, a rare phenomenon, has been a quandary from the standpoints of both its diagnosis and treatment. It is usually asymptomatic and discovered by chance on routine radiographic examinations or by a classic clinical sign, "pink spot" in the crown. This paper emphasizes the etiology and pathophysiologic mechanisms involved in internal root resorption. Prognosis is good for smalle...

External apical root resorption is an iatrogenic consequence of orthodontic treatment, although it may also occur in the absence of orthodontic treatment. Root resorption causes root shortening and breaks the integrity of teeth arch and this is very important for successful orthodontic treatment. Orthodontics is probably the only dental specialty that actually uses the inflammatory process as a...

Root resorption (RR) is defined as the loss of dental hard tissues because of clastic activity inside or outside of tooth the root. In the permanent dentition, RR is a pathologic event; if untreated, it might result in the premature loss of the affected tooth. Several hypotheses have been suggested as the mechanisms of root resorption such as absence of the remnants of Hertwig's epithelial root...

A n investigation of mineral density surrounding lacunar resorption sites in cases of both internal and external root resorption, was carried out on 37 human primary and permanent teeth. In addition, equivalent areas of the roots of 14 normal appearing teeth were studied for comparison. Thirty-two of the teeth were analyzed using microradiographic and microhardness techniques and the remainder ...

Aim: Previous studies have demonstrated that orthodontic forces may injure dental pulp tissue via the apical foramen. The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of various cytokines in pulp tissues of root apex after orthodontic tooth movement and compare the amount of internal root resorption in vital and pulp less rat teeth. Methods: Upper right first molars of 7-week Wistar ...

Purpose. This study is aimed to compare the effects of two different orthodontic forces on crevicular alkaline phosphatase activity, rate of tooth movement, and root resorption. Materials and Methods. Twelve female subjects of class II division 1 malocclusion participated. Maxillary canines with bonded fixed appliances acted as the tested teeth, while their antagonists with no appliances acted ...

Tooth avulsion is defined as the complete displacement of the tooth out of its alveolar socket. The treatment of choice is immediate replantation or if that is not possible, placement of the tooth in an appropriate storage media. This report presents replantation of an avulsed maxillary central incisor after 12 hours of storage in milk. The tooth was replanted and splinted. One week later, it w...
