The use of unbounded tendons is common in prestressed concrete structures and evaluation of the stress increase in unbonded tendons at ultimate flexural strength of such structure has posed a great challenge over the years. Based on the bending experiment for two-span continuous post-tension beams with unbounded tendons and externally applied CFRP sheets, the monitoring of the stress increment ...

Exact absorbing boundary conditions for a linearized KdV equation are derived in this paper. Applying these boundary conditions at artificial boundary points yields an initial-boundary value problem defined only on a finite interval. A dual-Petrov-Galerkin scheme is proposed for numerical approximation. Fast evaluation method is developed to deal with convolutions involved in the exact absorbin...

is to be minimized over control processes Y whose increments take values in a cone Y of R, keeping the state process X = x + B + GY in a cone X of R, k ≤ p. Here, x ∈ X, B is a Brownian motion with drift b and covariance Σ, G is a fixed matrix, and Y ◦ is the Radon–Nikodym derivative dY/d|Y |. Let L = −(1/2)trace(ΣD) − b ·D where D denotes the gradient. Solutions to the corresponding dynamic pr...

We present a calculational method for inverting programs by inverting the components separately. This is made possible by using assertions as commands and by permitting constructs that exhibit angelic nondeterminism. Rules are given for transforming inverted programs so that the angelic constructs are removed. A simple example illustrates the method.

In this paper we present an analytic treatment of the inverse problem of reconstructing the internal electric conductivity of an in nite domain (the lower half space) from electrical measurements performed on its surface. To this end we transform the initial di erential equation into an integral equation, a procedure which has the advantage of permitting a simple discussion of the regularizatio...

Let D be an unbounded domain in R with d ≥ 3. We show that if D contains an unbounded uniform domain, then the symmetric reflecting Brownian motion (RBM) on D is transient. Next assume that RBM X on D is transient and let Y be its time change by Revuz measure 1D(x)m(x)dx for a strictly positive continuous integrable function m on D. We further show that if there is some r > 0 so that D \ B(0, r...

Let Ω be a domain in RN , N ≥ 1, and 2∗ = ∞ if N = 1, 2, 2∗ = 2N N−2 if N > 2, 2 < p < 2 ∗. Consider the semilinear elliptic problem −∆u+ u = |u|p−2u in Ω; u ∈ H 0 (Ω). Let H1 0 (Ω) be the Sobolev space in Ω. The existence, the nonexistence, and the multiplicity of positive solutions are affected by the geometry and the topology of the domain Ω. The existence, the nonexistence, and the multipli...
