The kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at gold electrodes is affected by concentration alkali metal cations and electrolyte pH. At moderately alkaline pH, increasing cation greatly enhances HER activity. Cations are proposed to help stabilize transition state rate-determining Volmer step a favorable interaction with dissociating water molecule (*H–OHδ−–cat+).

Electron transfer (ET) rate kinetics through n-alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkanethiols of different chain lengths [Me(CH2)nSH; n=8, 10, 11, 15] on Au and Hg surfaces and ferrocene (Fc)-terminated SAMs (poly-norbornylogous and HS(CH2)12CONHCH2Fc) on Au were studied using cyclic voltammetry and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). The SECM results allow determination o...

We have developed a corrosion model that can predict metal oxide growth and dissolution rates as a function of time for a range of solution conditions. Our model considers electrochemical reactions at the metal/oxide and oxide/solution interfaces, and the metal cation flux from the metal to the solution phase through a growing oxide layer, and formulates the key processes using classical chemic...

Polarization curves are of paramount importance for the detection of toxic components in microbial fuel cell (MFC) based biosensors. In this study, polarization curves were made under non-toxic conditions and under toxic conditions after the addition of various concentrations of nickel, bentazon, sodiumdodecyl sulfate and potassium ferricyanide. The experimental polarization curves show that to...

A novel bicomponent alkyd system was designed to decrease the usage of Cobalt-based drier due to its latent carcinogensis. The system was polymerized using a Cobalt-salt complex as an air-sensitive drier and an isopropylthioxanthone photoinitiator as a light-sensitive accelerator, as well as using irradiation in the form of visible light. The combined influence of the two additives on autoxidat...

Intracellular drug release rates were measured by monitoring mitoxantrone (MTX) on gold nanoparticle (AuNP) carriers by means of real-time label-free bimodal imaging with confocal Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy. The quenching nature of the MTX-AuNPs by nanometal surface energy transfer (NSET) was analyzed using the determined Stern-Volmer constant of KSV = 2.28 × 10(9) M(-1). The amount of...

Primary quantum yields Φ of NO2 photolysis at wavelengths λ # 398 nm and at bath gas pressures below 1 bar are analyzed. Stern-Volmer plots for collisional photolysis quenching, from experiments at pressures between 10 and 1000 bar, do not indicate a substantial reduction of the quantum yield below unity for pressures below 1 bar. The consequences of the recently discovered fluctuations of spec...

Non-coherent sensitized red-to-green upconversion has been achieved utilizing platinum(II) tetraphenyltetrabenzoporphyrin (PtTPTBP) as the triplet sensitizer and a nearly quantitatively fluorescent meso-(2,6-dichloropyridyl)-substituted boron dipyrromethene (Cl2PyBODIPY) chromophore (Φ = 0.99 in toluene) as the energy acceptor/annihilator in deoxygenated toluene. Dynamic Stern-Volmer analysis r...

A novel class of N-substituted glycosmicine derivatives was synthesized, and their anticonvulsant, antioxidant activity and interaction with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were evaluated. The synthesized compounds 4a-j were examined for anticonvulsant activity by maximal electroshock induced seizures (MESs) test and their neurotoxic effects were determined by rotorod test in mice. The structure-act...
