Nowadays layered photonic structures (LPSs) are key of optoelectronic and microwave devices such as, phased-array antennas, microcavities and mirrors [1,2], filters of xWDM systems [3], waveguide structures, photodetectors, sensors and others. In case of active devices the layered structures are usually used in form of superlattices [4-6], multiple quantum wells [7,8] and asymmetric multiple qu...

We present an optical waveguide technology for low-loss, compact and tunable planar integrated optical devices. Examples of devices realized in this technology include finite and infinite impulse response (FIR and IIR) filters and optical switches. © 1999 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (130.3120) Integrated optics devices, (130.3130) Integrated optics materials

A radio frequency (RF) photonic filter is experimentally demonstrated using an optical tapped delay line (TDL) based on an optical frequency comb and a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide as multiplexer. The approach is used to implement RF filters with variable bandwidth, shape, and center-frequency.

Passive nonlinear filters provide a rich source of evolving spectra for sound synthesis. This paper describes a nonlinear allpass filter of arbitrary order based on the normalized ladder filter. It is expressed in FAUST recursively in only two statements. Toward the synthesis of cymbals and gongs, it was used to make nonlinear waveguide meshes and feedback-delay-network reverberators.

We apply direct electron beam writing to fabricate corrugated sidewall Bragg gratings in polymer waveguides and demonstrate multi-channel passband filters based on a phase-shifted design. Experimental results are compared with numerical fittings to analyze the impact of signal polarization and waveguide cladding material upon device performance.

An open ring resonator (ORR) loaded with a varactor diode is designed and implemented in order to achieve high-performance tunable band-stop filters in planar technology with a compact size. This varactor-loaded ORR (VLORR) is versatile. It allows a shunt connection with different planar waveguide sections. In this paper, it has been connected to a coplanar waveguide (CPW) and a half-mode subst...

Highly efficient polarization-tuned structural color filters, which are based on a one- dimensional resonant aluminum grating that is integrated with a silicon nitride waveguide, are proposed and demonstrated to feature a broad color palette. For such a metallic grating structure, transmissive color filtering is only feasible for the incident transverse-magnetic (TM) polarization due to its hig...

Resonant grating filters have been proposed as a promising alternative to multilayer stacks for narrowband free-space filtering. The efficiency of such filters under normal incidence has been demonstrated. Unfortunately, under oblique incidence, the limited angular tolerance of the resonance forbids any filtering applications with use of standard collimated incident beams. Using a multimode pla...

We present a filter design formalism for the synthesis of coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW) filters. This formalism leads to expressions and a methodology for deriving the coupling coefficients of CROWs for the desired filter responses and is based on coupled-mode theory as well as the recursive properties of the coupling matrix. The coupling coefficients are universal and can be appli...
