BACKGROUND Identification and treatment of unrecognised asthmatics in the community is important for improving the health of the individual and minimising cost and quality of life burden. It is not practical to offer clinical diagnostic assessment to whole communities, and a simple tool such as a questionnaire is required to identify a smaller target group. Conventional questionnaire screening ...

BACKGROUND Deprivation indices are useful measures to analyze health inequalities. There are several methods to construct these indices, however, few studies have used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-Criteria methods to construct a deprivation index. Therefore, this study applies Multi-Criteria Evaluation to calculate weights for the indicators that make up the deprivation index ...

Recall the online learning model we discussed in the previous lecture: N = # experts For t = 1, 2, . . . , T rounds: 1) each expert i, 1 ≤ i ≤ N , makes a prediction ξi ∈ {0, 1} 2) learner makes a prediction ŷ ∈ {0, 1} 3) observe outcome y ∈ {0, 1} (a mistake happens if ŷ 6= y) With this framework in hand, we investigated a particular algorithm, Weighted Majority Algorithm (WMA), as follows: N ...

BACKGROUND Malaria remains an important public health concern in China and is particularly serious in Yunnan, a China's provincial region of high malaria burden with an incidence of 1.79/105 in 2012. This study aims to examine the epidemiologic profile and spatiotemporal aspects of epidemics of malaria, and to examine risk factors which may influence malaria epidemics in Yunnan Province. METH...

Hospital networks, formed by patients visiting multiple hospitals, affect the spread of hospital-associated infections, resulting in differences in risks for hospitals depending on their network position. These networks are increasingly used to inform strategies to prevent and control the spread of hospital-associated pathogens. However, many studies only consider patients that are received dir...

The computational sampling of rare, large-scale, conformational transitions in proteins is a well appreciated challenge-for which a number of potentially efficient path-sampling methodologies have been proposed. Here, we study a large-scale transition in a united-residue model of calmodulin using the "weighted ensemble" (WE) approach of Huber and Kim. Because of the model's relative simplicity,...

A lonesum matrix is a (0, 1)-matrix uniquely determined by its column and row sums, and the sum of its all entries is called the “weight” of it. The generating function of numbers of weighted lonesum matrices of each weight is given. A certain explicit formula for the number of weighted lonesum matrices is also proved.

in this paper, we considered composition operators on weighted hilbert spaces of analytic functions and  observed that a formula for the  essential norm, gives a hilbert-schmidt characterization and characterizes the membership in schatten-class for these operators. also, closed range composition operators  are investigated.
