Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis of chromosomal single and double restriction profiles of 17 strains belonging to three genera of 'Leuconostocaceae' was done, resulting in physical and genetic maps for three Fructobacillus, six Leuconostoc and four Weissella strains. AscI, I-CeuI, NotI and SfiI restriction enzymes were used together with Southern hybridization of selected probes to pro...

We report here the complete genome sequence of Weissella ceti strain WS08, an emerging pathogen to farm-raised rainbow trout. The genome of strain WS08 is composed of a circular chromosome with 1,355,853 bp and a G+C content of 40.78%.

Several isolates of vancomycin-resistant Lactobacillus confusus from human sources have been described, but to our knowledge, no well-documented infection attributable to this organism has been published. A thumb abscess caused by this bacterium in a healthy 49-year-old male is reported here. He was successfully treated by surgical drainage and cephalothin.

Ninety-two strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from a Malaysian food ingredient, chili bo, stored for up to 25 days at 28 degreesC with no benzoic acid (product A) or with 7,000 mg of benzoic acid kg-1 (product B). The strains were divided into eight groups by traditional phenotypic tests. A total of 43 strains were selected for comparison of their sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacr...

Weissella koreensis KACC 15510 was isolated from kimchi, a representative traditional Korean fermented food. Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of W. koreensis KACC 15510, consisting of a 1,422,478-bp chromosome and one 18,992-bp plasmid, and provide a description of their annotation.

We report here the draft genome sequence of Weissella confusa MBF8-1, an isolate from a homemade fermented soybean product that produces sucrases and exhibits antibacterial (bacteriocin) activity. The draft genome of W. confusa MBF8-1 comprises a 2.2-Mbp chromosome and a 17.8-kbp bacteriocin-encoding plasmid. Two putative glucansucrase genes were also identified.

Abnormal adipocyte growth, in terms of increased cell numbers and increased cell differentiation, is considered to be a major pathological feature of obesity. Thus, the inhibition of preadipocyte mitogenesis and differentiation could help prevent and suppress obesity. The aim of this study was to assess whether extracts from Weissella koreensis 521 cells isolated from kimchi could exert anti-ad...
