W artykule przedstawiono problematykę związaną ze zużyciem zarysu zewnętrznego wieńców kół monoblokowych w pojazdach szynowych. Przedstawiono najczęstsze przyczyny zużycia podczas eksploatacji komercyjnej pojazdów szynowych na przestrzeni wielu doświadczeń zebranych dziesiątków lat przez zarządy europejskie. Zaprezentowano skutki oraz środki zaradcze, przeciwdziałające zużyciu.
