An automated, multi-disciplinary optimization procedure for sub-sonic gas turbine compressor blades is presented. Evolutionary optimization algorithms are coupled with existing tools for geometry generation, mechanical integrity analysis and Q3D flow analysis for design and off-design conditions. Aerodynamic and mechanical objectives and constraints are formulated based on the standard design c...

A new approach, Multi-Objective Design Exploration (MODE), is presented to address Multidisciplinary Design Optimization problems. MODE reveals the structure of the design space from the trade-off information and visualizes it as a panorama for Decision Maker. The present form of MODE consists of Kriging Model, Adaptive Range Multi Objective Genetic Algorithms, Analysis of Variance and Self-Org...

Optimization of the sectional wing in ground effect (WIG) has been studied using ahigh order numerical procedure and response surface method (RSM). Initially, the effects of the ground clearance, angle of attack, thickness, and camber of wing have been investigated by a high-resolutionscheme, which is highlystrong and accurate. In the numerical simulation, Normalized Variable Diagram (NVD) sche...

Aerodynamic data modeling plays an important role in aerospace and industrial fluid engineering. Support vector machines (SVMs), as a novel type of learning machine based on statistical learning theory, can be used for regression problems and have been reported to perform well with promising results. The work presented here examines the feasibility of applying SVMs to the aerodynamic modeling f...

the goal of this research is preparation, optimization and in-vitro evaluation of rifampin-loaded silica nanaoparticles in order to use in pulmonary drug delivery. nanoparticles are exhaled because of thier small size, preparation of nanoaggregates in micron-sized scale and re-disrpersion of them after the deposition in the lung is one approach in order to overcome this problem, which we used i...

Several government/commercial oo-the-shelf modular software packages have been combined to perform static aeroelastic analysis and aerodynamic optimization of a generic high-speed civil transport, with the eventual goal of performing high-delity multidisciplinary optimization (MDO). Results obtained for the aeroelastic analysis and aerodynamic optimization cases are consistent with expectations...

This paper addresses the aerodynamic performance of Busemann-type supersonic biplanes at both design and offdesign conditions. An adjoint-based optimization technique is used to optimize the aerodynamic shape of the biplane to reduce the wave drag at a series of Mach numbers ranging from 1.1 to 1.7, at both acceleration and deceleration conditions. The optimized biplane airfoils dramatically re...

We describe ADJIFOR, an automated adjoint code generator for Fortran, and present preliminary results from the application of ADJIFOR to augment the CFL3D ow solver. Based on these initial results with CFL3D, we argue that, even in its infancy, ADJIFOR can deliver derivatives accurately and eeciently for use in aerodynamic shape optimization problems with 200 to 500 independent design variables.

wind power has been widely considered in recent years as an available and a clean renewable energy source. the cost of wind energy production is currently the main issue, and increasing the size of wind turbines can reduce wind energy production costs. hence, megawatt wind turbines are being rapidly developed in recent years. in this paper, an aerodynamic analysis of the nrel 5mw turbine is car...

An intuitive shape parameterization and control technique suitable for high-fidelity aerodynamic shape optimization is presented. It relies on the principles of free-form and axial deformation, enabling thorough exploration of the design space while keeping the number of design variables manageable. Surface sensitivities to the design variables are readily available; their inclusion in a highly...
