Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is often associated with the preclinical phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Special scoring of word-list recall data for serial position has been suggested to improve discrimination of normal aging from dementia. We examined serial position effects in word-list recall for MCI participants compared to Alzheimer patients and controls. Individuals with MCI, like Alz...

1. Early onset Familial Alzheimer Disease (eFAD). Abnormalities of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) that render it more amyloidogenic, or defects of processing normal APP cause genetic forms of AD. The literature estimates that eFAD accounts for approximately 2% of all people with dementia (approximately 3-5% of all Alzheimer cases) [1,2]. In these patients, autosomal dominant AD usually dev...

Thousands of published papers have continued to report that amyloid deposition in the brain of Alzheimer disease (AD) patients is the basis for the disease. Two observations deserve attention. It has been found at autopsy that the percentage of amyloid plaques within the brains of nondemented, age‐adjusted individuals can be the same percentage of amyloid plaques found at autopsy within the bra...

Alzheimer‟s disease (AD) may be situated within a cultural landscape produced, in part, by demographics and the marketing strategies of an aggressive biopharmaceutical industry. The simultaneously corporeal and visual domain of advertisements for anti-AD drugs generates dynamic images of gender and embodiment, and it also lends itself to feminist interventions engaging with the images and ideas...

The etiology of Alzheimer disease (AD) is unknown. To investigate the transmissibility of AD, the buffy coat of the blood from 11 relatives of AD patients, including 2 with suspicious or early signs of AD, was inoculated intracerebrally into hamsters. In these pilot experiments, 5 individuals produced histologically documented spongiform encephalopathy on primary passage in recipient hamsters. ...

Children of persons with Alzheimer disease (AD), as a group, face an increased risk of developing AD. Many of them, throughout their adult lives, seek input on how to reduce their chances of one day suffering their parent's fate. We examine the state of knowledge with respect to risk and protective factors for AD and recommend a research agenda with special emphasis on AD offspring.

Alzheimer Disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia among elderly people. It is a severe neurodegenerative disorder which is highly characterized by progressive loss of brain tissues. It interferes with normal activity of daily living due to loss of cognitive ability. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has been proven to be very useful in early diagnosis and progression analysis of AD. Thi...

conclusions both task-related and resting fmri techniques have the potential to detect early brain dysfunction related to ad. however, the use of fmri in ad populations thus far has been limited to a relatively small number of research groups. results bold fmri is considered to reflect the joined synaptic activity of neurons through mri signal changes because of alterations in blood flow, blood...
