MOTIVATION While it is common to refer to 'the genome sequence' as if it were a single, complete and contiguous DNA string, it is in fact an assembly of millions of small, partially overlapping DNA fragments. Sophisticated computer algorithms (assemblers and scaffolders) merge these DNA fragments into contigs, and place these contigs into sequence scaffolds using the paired-end sequences derive...

The author gives a brief historical tour of theoretical tile selfassembly via chronological sequence of reports on selected topics in the field. The goal is to provide context and motivation for the these results and the field more broadly. Introduction. This tour covers only a subset of the research topics in theoretical tile self-assembly, listed chronologically according to the most intense ...

This paper presents a general approach to the acquisition of sensor-based robot skills from human demonstrations. Since human-generated examples cannot be assumed to be optimal with respect to the robot, adaptation of the initially acquired skill is explicitly considered. Results for acquiring and reening manipulation skills for a Puma 260 manipulator are given.

diamondoids are cage-like saturated hydrocarbons consisting of fused cyclohexane rings. thediamondoids family of compounds is one of the best candidates for molecular building blocks (mbbs)in nanotechnology to construct organic nanostructures compared to other mbbs known so far. thechallenge is to find a route for self-assembly of these cage hydrocarbons and their applications in thebottom-up s...

Online health support groups are places for people to compare themselves with others and obtain informational and emotional support about their disease. To do so, they generally need to reveal private information about themselves and in many support sites, they can do this in public or private channels. However, we know little about how the publicness of the channels in health support groups in...

objectives: nowadays, snap-fits are used in the automotive industry as a proper alternative for mechanical joints, cabling joints, and car interior lining joints. due to the special form of these joints, which are assembled manually, the contact area between snap-fits and the worker's fingertips can be too small. this can cause skin pain on the worker's fingertips. therefore, an ergonomic study...

One way to perform registration and alignment for machine assembly is with respect to precisely located landmarks, called fiducials. that are located by machine vision means. For applications such as elearonics assembly, where densities are high and tolerances must be low. the precision by which the fiducials are located affects everything aligned relative to them. Because of s~a t ia l sam~l i...

In this paper we define the Dupled abstract Tile Assembly Model (DaTAM), which is a slight extension to the abstract Tile Assembly Model (aTAM) that allows for not only the standard square tiles, but also “duple” tiles which are rectangles pre-formed by the joining of two square tiles. We show that the addition of duples allows for powerful behaviors of self-assembling systems at temperature 1,...

with the growth in customers’ demand diversification, mixed-model u-lines (mmul) have acquired increasing importance in the area of assembly systems. there are generally two different approaches in the literature for balancing such systems. some researchers believe that since the types of models can be very diverse, a balancing approach without simultaneously sequencing of models will not yield...

Theoretically, parallel kinematics machine tools should be very accurate and rigid due to their closed loop structure and no error accumulation characteristics. Unfortunately, these theoretical presumptions have not been confirmed in practice, due to manufacturing and assembly errors, kinematic errors in the actuators and joints, elastic deformations due to the gravity, thermal deformations, li...
