A low-cost, solution-processed, versatile, microfluidic approach is developed for patterning structures of highly conductive metals (e.g., copper, silver, and nickel) on chemically modified flexible polyethylene terephthalate thin films by in situ polymer-assisted electroless metal deposition. This method has significantly lowered the consumption of catalyst as well as the metal plating solution.

Transparent p-type nickel oxide (NiO) thin films have been epitaxially grown on (0001) Al2O3 substrates by a chemical solution method of polymer-assisted deposition for the first time. The films have a high optical transparency of above 95% in the wavelength range of 350-900 nm.

An overview on InN nanowires, fabricated using either a catalyst-free molecular beam epitaxy method or a catalyst assisted chemical vapor deposition process, is provided. Differences and similarities of the nanowires prepared using the two techniques are presented. The present understanding of the growth and of the basic optical and transport properties is discussed.
