Ball-milled graphitic carbon, both not and electrochemically lithiated, has been studied by total x-ray diffraction involving high-energy synchrotron radiation scattering and atomic pair distribution function analysis. The experimental data has been used to guide reverse Monte Carlo simulations of the three-dimensional structure of the not-lithiated samples. Experimental and modeling results sh...

Low-cost, high-yield production of graphene nanosheets (GNs) is essential for practical applications. We have achieved high yield of edge-selectively carboxylated graphite (ECG) by a simple ball milling of pristine graphite in the presence of dry ice. The resultant ECG is highly dispersable in various solvents to self-exfoliate into single- and few-layer (≤ 5 layers) GNs. These stable ECG (or G...

Ball milling was exploited to prepare a substituted proline building block by mechanochemical nucleophilic substitution. Subsequently, the mechanocoupling of hindered proline amino acid derivatives was developed to provide proline-proline dipeptides under solvent-free conditions. A deprotection-cyclization sequence yielded the corresponding diketopiperazines that were obtained with a high stere...

This paper uses the artificial neural networks (ANN’s) approach to evolve an efficient model for estimation of cutting forces, based on a set of input cutting conditions. Neural network algorithms are developed for use as a direct modeling method, to predict forces for ball-end milling operations. Prediction of cutting forces in ball-end milling is often needed in order to establish automation ...

The effect of ball milling on kinetics of the thermite reaction of 3Fe2O3 + 8Al powder mixture to synthesizeFe3Al-Al2O3 nanocomposite was investigated using differential thermal analysis. A model-free methodwas applied to the non-isothermal differential calorimetry (DSC) data to evaluate the reaction kineticsaccording to the Starink method. The activation energy of the thermit...

Strontium carbonate (SrCO3) is one of the most important strontium compounds that have been used in a variety of technological and industrial applications. In the present investigation, nano-structured strontium carbonate was synthesized by mechano-chemical reaction of celestite ore (SrSO4) collected from Dasht-e kavir, Iran and sodium carbonate during high energy mechanical milling. The milling...

The research investigates synthesized Nano-structured PbO2 using ball milling. The structure and morphology of the samples were determined in the process of milling by means of XRD and SEM. The size of particles was estimated through DLS analysis. The TEM image of the synthesized powder verifies the achievement of Nano dimensions. Design and analyses of the results using Taguchi methodology rev...

BACKGROUND Belt or wire shaped TiO2(B) particles were synthesized for lithium ion battery application by a hydrothermal and heat treatment process. In order to facilitate TiO2(B)/C composites fabrication, the synthesized TiO2(B) particles were crushed into smaller sizes by ball milling. RESULTS Ball mill treated TiO2(B) particles of less than 1.0 μm with a fraction of anatase phase, compared ...
