Abstract The palladium-catalysed Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of organohalides and organoborons is a reliable method for carbon–carbon bond formation. This involves base-mediated transmetalation process, but the presence base also promotes competitive protodeborylation. Herein, we established via Lewis acid-mediated an organopalladium(II) intermediate with organoborons. Experimental t...

We found that an integrated flow microreactor system enables the preparation of boronic esters bearing electrophilic functional groups using organolithium chemistry and that it allows for their use in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling without intentionally added base. Based on this method, cross-coupling of two aryl halides bearing electrophilic functional groups was accomplished to obtain the corr...

Droplets emitting surface-active chemicals exhibit chemotaxis toward low-pH regions. Such droplets are self-propelled and navigate through a complex maze to seek a source of acid placed at one of the maze's exits. In doing so, the droplets find the shortest path through the maze. Chemotaxis and maze solving are due to an interplay between acid/base chemistry and surface tension effects.

In this demonstration, we show a qualitative analysis of sulfite ions in white wine with strontium ions. In base solution, a white precipitation occurs from strontium sulfite that disappears after a strong acid is added. This demonstration nicely illustrates chemical equilibrium in a school chemistry experiment.

This survey focuses on recent developments in the radiation chemistry of purine bases in nucleic acids and related model compounds. Both direct and indirect effects of ionizing radiation are investigated with special emphasis on the structural characterization of the final decomposition products of nucleic acid components. Available assays for monitoring radiation-induced base lesions are criti...

The base-catalyzed hydroamination of olefins offers a simple and elegant access to various primary, secondary, and tertiary amines. Particular focus is placed on developments in the area of hydroamination of non-activated olefins. Advantages and disadvantages of the methodology compared to other synthetic methods are presented. Special attention is paid to potential industrial applications of t...

Three organoboron functionalized polyoxometalates have been synthesized using Schiff base chemistry including a boronic acid, its methyl ester and its trimethylene glycol ester. The compounds have been characterized in the solid state by single crystal diffraction (XRD), FT-IR and elemental analysis and in solution using 1H NMR spectroscopy.

Methods for imine trifluoromethylation are of great importance because amines with trifluoromethylated stereogenic centers are useful building blocks for synthetic chemistry and drug discovery. Herein, we describe a new copper(II)-catalyzed imine trifluoromethylation method without the use of Lewis base activators, presumably through cooperative activation.
