Pronuciferine N-oxide (1), a proaporphine N-methyl-N-oxide alkaloid, along with the parent alkaloid pronuciferine (2) were isolated from Berberis coletioides. The structure of the new compound was determined by spectroscopic evidence. Compound 1 is the first naturally occurring proaporphinoid alkaloid with an N-oxide functionality.
Th e aerial parts and seeds of Sophora alopecuroides L. var. alopecuroides growing in Turkey were investigated for their alkaloid compositions and antimicrobial activities. Th e alkaloid extracts were analysed by capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Th e main components were identifi ed as sophoridine (33.07%), matrine (24.03%), and sophocarpine (8.01%) in the aerial parts, a...
To study the antitumor activity of alkaloid extracted from Oxytropis ochrocephala and its possible mechanism, we observed the effect of alkaloid on tumor weight and expression of PCNA and p53 in mice bearing H(22) hepatocellular carcinoma by means of immunohistochemistry SP method. After treatment with alkaloid from Oxytropis ochrocephala, the results showed that alkaloid administration (25 and...
Three ergoline alkaloids producing Claviceps strains easily formed protoplasts when treated with snail digestive extract ex Helix pomatia. Colonies obtained after regeneration of protoplasts were monitored for alkaloid production. Among the regenerated progeny strains could be iso lated which differ considerably in the quantity of ergolines and the composition of the alkaloid mixture compared ...
Lupin seeds are rich in proteins, lipids and bioactive compounds, but before consumption must be debittered to remove toxic alkaloids. Traditionally, debittering is a water-intensive protracted process, lasting up six days. To develop more efficient procedure, different washing solutions (0.5% 1% NaCl or citric acid), with without the use of ultrasound, were applied on Lupinus albus compared tw...
A new Erythrina alkaloid glycoside, named erythraline-11β-O-glucopyranoside, was isolated from the seeds of Erythrina crista-galli L., together with five known Erythrina alkaloids and an indole alkaloid. The structure of the new alkaloid glycoside was elucidated by spectroscopic methods, and all of the compounds were evaluated for their antiviral activity against tobacco mosaic virus.
Background: Endophytic fungi are known as a producer of myriad bioactive natural products, including those originally produced by the host plants. Huperzine A (Hup A), lycopodium alkaloid, which was reported an active acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI) agent used for treatment Alzheimer’s disease, isolated from medicinal Chinese herbs Huperzia serrata. Moreover, various species endophytic a...
Recent advances in the cell, developmental, and molecular biology of alkaloid biosynthesis have heightened our appreciation for the complexity and importance of plant secondary pathways. Several biosynthetic genes involved in the formation of tropane, benzylisoquinoline, and terpenoid indole alkaloids have now been isolated. The early events of signal perception, the pathways of signal transduc...
Mitragyna speciosa Korth. leaves have been traditionally used by Malay and Thai natives for its opiumlike effect and coca-like stimulant ability to enhance tolerance for hard work. Mitragynine is the major indole alkaloid in this plant. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the alkaloid extract of M. speciosa leaves and its major alkaloid mitragynine on exploratory behaviour, sho...
