Trypsin has been encapsulated in the mesopores of a hierarchical mesoporous silica material synthesized via Cu(I) catalyzed azide-alkyne click reaction between azide functionalized large spherical SBA-15 particles and alkyne functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs). Encapsulated trypsin functions as an efficient biocatalyst and can be recycled several times.

Herein, we synthesized 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP) from o-phenylenediamine (OP) using fungal laccase as a biocatalyst. The conversion ratio of OP monomer was 85% and the yield of the final purified product, DAP, was 63%. The structure of the main product, DAP, was confirmed by using several spectroscopy techniques (UV-VIS, IR, 2DNMR, and MS).

Bacillus pumilus is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped, aerobic bacterium isolated from the soil. B. pumilus strain B6033 was originally selected as a biocatalyst for the stereospecific oxidation of β-lactams. Here, we present a 3.8-Mb assembly of its genome, which is the second fully assembled genome of a B. pumilus strain.

Highly selective enzymatic reductions of aldehydes to the corresponding alcohols was performed using an E. coli JM109 whole cell biocatalyst. A selective enzymatic method for the reduction of aldehydes could provide an eco-compatible alternative to chemical methods. The simplicity, fairly wide scope and the very high observed chemoselectivity of this approach are its most unique features.
