We revisit optical and radio afterglows arising from the shocks by relativistic conical ejecta running into pre-burst massive stellar winds. Under the homogeneous thin-shell approximation and the realistic treatment for lateral expansion of jets, our results show that a notable break of optical light curve within one decade in time indeed exists in most cases of our calculations by varying phys...

The afterglow emission that follows gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) contains valuable information about the circumburst medium and, therefore, about the GRB progenitor. Theoretical studies of GRB blast waves, however, are often limited to simple density profiles for the external medium (mostly constant density and power-law R−k ones). We argue that a large fraction of long-duration GRBs should take pla...

Cu3(BTC)2 is an efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for the dehydrogenative coupling of silanes with alcohols. Activity data and CO adsorption suggest that Cu(II) and in situ generated Cu(I) are the active species. Other MOFs such as Fe(BTC), MIL-101(Cr) and UiO-66(Zr) are unable to promote this cross-coupling.

Rietveld analyses of neutron powder diffraction data of D2 in Cu3(BTC)2, where BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate, reveals the location and progressive filling of six distinct D2 sites within the nanopore structure. Location of the primary site at the coordinatively unsaturated Cu atoms provides direct structural evidence of the potential importance of such metal sites to hydrogen storage. Compe...

Context. The Swift discovery of the short burst GRB 090510 has raised considerable attention mainly because of two reasons: first, it had a bright optical afterglow, and second it is among the most energetic events detected so far within the entire GRB population (long plus short). The afterglow of GRB 090510 was observed with Swift/UVOT and Swift/XRT and evidence of a jet break around 1.5 ks a...

Biliary tract cancer (BTC) is the second most common primary hepatobiliary cancer after hepatocellular cancer. At the time of diagnosis, most BTC are at an advanced stage and are unresectable. There is presently no effective curative treatment of the advanced disease nor is there any effective clinical therapy that will prevent the development of BTC. All of these factors render gallbladder can...

Extensive stromal interaction is one reason for the dismal outcome of biliary tract cancer (BTC) patients. Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) is involved in tumor invasion and metastasis and is partly regulated by microRNAs (miRs). This study explores the expression of anti-EMT miR200 family (miR141, -200a/b/c, -429) and miR205 as well as the EMT-related proteins E-cadherin and vimentin...

BACKGROUND The patterns of radiotherapy (RT) practice for biliary tract cancer (BTC) in Japan are not clearly established. METHODS A questionnaire-based national survey of RT used for BTC treatment between 2000 and 2011 was conducted by the Japanese Radiation Oncology Study Group. Detailed information was collected for 555 patients from 31 radiation oncology institutions. RESULTS The median...

BACKGROUND The optimal treatment strategy for biliary tract cancer (BTC) after curative-intent resection remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of fluoropyrimidine-based adjuvant chemotherapy for BTC patients undergoing microscopically margin-negative (R0) resection. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of BTC patients who underwent cura...
