Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae strains have been increasingly reported worldwide, and there is emergence of carbapenem resistance among them. Here, we report the genome sequences of three carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent K. pneumoniae isolates isolated from bacteremic patients at a tertiary-care center in South India.
We report the failure of the automated MicroScan WalkAway system to detect carbapenem heteroresistance in Enterobacter aerogenes. Carbapenem resistance has become an increasing concern in recent years, and robust surveillance is required to prevent dissemination of resistant strains. Reliance on automated systems may delay the detection of emerging resistance.
A new CHROMagar KPC medium was compared to MacConkey agar with carbapenem discs and PCR for the bla(KPC) gene for rapid detection of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae. The sensitivity and specificity relative to PCR were 100% and 98.4%, respectively, for CHROMagar KPC and 92.7% and 95.9%, respectively, for MacConkey agar.
This manuscript reports the clinical, microbiological, and genetic characteristics of carbapenem-resistant K. pnuemoniae isolates from pediatric patients at a tertiary-care children's hospital. Although there is an extensive body of literature describing carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella infections in adults, pediatric data are comparatively limited.
The spread of the plasmid-mediated carbapenem-hydrolyzing oxacillinase OXA-58 was detected in Acinetobacter sp. clinical isolates from southern Europe, the Balkans, and central Turkey. It may contribute significantly to the emergence of carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter spp., at least in this part of the world.
Carbapenem resistance among Enterobacteriaceae is an emerging problem worldwide. Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (bla(KPC)) enzymes are among the most common beta-lactamases described. In this study, we report the development and validation of a real-time PCR (q-PCR) assay for the detection of bla(KPC) genes using TaqMan chemistry. The q-PCR amplification of bla(KPC) DNA was linear over 7 l...
Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae is a problem worldwide. A carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae lineage classified as multilocus sequence type 258 (ST258) is prominent in the health care setting in many regions of the world, including the United States. ST258 strains can be resistant to virtually all clinically useful antibiotics; treatment of infections caused by these organisms is dif...
5 Abstract Aim: To analyse the occurrence of bla genes (blaIMP, blaVIM, blaGIM, blaSIM, blaSPM, blaPER, blaKPC, and blaOXA) responsible for carbapenemresistance, as well as the presence of cephalosporin-resistance genes (blaCTX-M, blaTEM, blaSHV and blaampC ) by polymerase chain reactions (PCRs). Methods: The study was performed on routine samples subjected to culture and antibiotics susceptibi...
b ackground : one of the main mechanisms of resistance to carbapenems is potential of klebsiella pneumoniae to produce k . pneumoniae carbapenemase (kpc). kpc is an important type of carbapenemase, which can hydrolyze carbapenems and other beta-lactam antibiotics. modified hodge test (mht) and use of boronic acid as a kpc inhibitor are two types of phenotypic methods, which are use...
metallo-β-lactamase (mbl) producing pseudomonas aeruginosa has been reported to be an important nosocomial infection. its intrinsic and acquired resistance to various antimicrobial agents and its ability to develop multidrug resistance imposes a serious therapeutic problem. different clinical samples were collected from public and private hospitals in baghdad city, iraq. bacterial identificatio...
