Oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural into 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid is an important transformation for the production of bio-based polymers. Carbon-supported gold catalysts hold great promise for this transformation. Here we demonstrate that the activity, selectivity, and stability of the carbon-supported gold nanoparticles in the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural strongly depend on the sur...

Carbon riveted Pt/C catalyst was designed and prepared by in situ carbonized glucose in this paper. Characterization results show that carbon riveted Pt/C prevents Pt nanoparticles from coalescence. Its stability is markedly enhanced due to the anchoring effect of the carbon layers formed during the carbon riveting process.

There is an increasing demand for convenient and accurate point-of-care tools that can detect and diagnose different stages of a disease in remote or impoverished settings. In recent years, lateral flow immunoassays (LFIA) have been indicated as a suitable medical diagnostic tool for these environments because they require little or no sample preparation, provide rapid and reliable results with...

Carbon coated TiO2 (TiO2@C) is fabricated by a convenient and green one-pot solvothermal method, in which ethylene glycol serve as both the reaction medium and carbon source without the addition of any other carbon additives. During the solvothermal process, ethylene glycol polymerize and coordinate with Ti4+ to form the polymeric ligand precursor, then the polymer brushes carbonize and convert...

The oxidation characteristics of airborne carbon nanoparticles were investigated at various temperatures and NO(2) concentrations. Airborne carbon nanoparticles were generated by spark-discharging method using nitrogen as a carrier gas. Monodisperse carbon particles classified using a differential mobility analyzer were introduced into a tube furnace with NO(2) for oxidation reaction. The size ...

Carbon dioxide capture and use as a carbon feedstock presents both environmental and industrial benefits. Here we report the discovery of a hybrid oxide catalyst comprising manganese oxide nanoparticles supported on mesoporous spinel cobalt oxide, which catalyses the conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol at high yields. In addition, carbon-carbon bond formation is observed through the produc...

A facile and potentially scalable synthesis route to obtain SnO2-carbon composites was developed. SnO2 nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of two types of graphitic carbon: a) commercial porous graphite (HG) and b) graphitic carbon nanostructures (GCN). The synthesis procedure consists of two simple steps: i) room temperature formation/deposition of SnO2 nanocrystals and ii) thermal tre...

Nowadays, modified electrodes with metal nanoparticles have appeared as an alternative for the electroanalysis of various compounds. In this study, gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were chosen as interesting metal nanoparticles for modifying of carbon paste electrode (CPE). GNPs and the gold nanoparticles-modified carbon paste electrode (GNPs/CPE) were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, transmissio...

Herein, we report on a novel method for deposition of magnesium (Mg) nanoparticles at the surface of carbon materials. Through the suspension of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in an electrolyte containing di-n-butylmagnesium as a precursor, Mg nanoparticles were effectively deposited at the surface of the CNTs as soon as these touched the working electrode. Through this process, CNTs supported Mg part...
