We studied the flow and physical properties of hydraulic body fluid spiders. Our results suggest that this fluid, which drives leg extension, is shear-thinning. This interesting characteristic could inspire systems for soft-robotics.
In the present study, three dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) simulations of a steel water storage elevated tank for different tank aspect ratios, percentages of water stored in the tank, tank wall thicknesses and effect of baffle in tank have been performed using the FE software ABAQUS. The coupled Euler–Lagrange (CEL) formulation in ABAQUS has been adopted herein which has the ...
President's Address The visibility of EUROMECH as the leading society for European scholars engaged in basic research in the Mechanical Sciences has been enhanced by establishing two types of awards: The EUROMECH Fluid and Solid Mechanics Prizes and EUROMECH Fellowships. We are very grateful to colleagues who took the initiative in preparing nomination files for Fluid Mechanics Prizes and Fello...

The cell is a mechanical machine, and continuum mechanics of the fluid cytoplasm and the viscoelastic deforming cytoskeleton play key roles in cell physiology. We reviewmathematicalmodels of intracellular fluidmechanics, from cytoplasmic fluid flows, to the flow of a viscous active cytoskeletal gel, to models of two-phase poroviscous flows, to poroelastic models. We discuss application of these ...

The present text is based on a set of lectures given as part of a post graduate course in fluid mechanics at the Department of Mechanics, KTH School of Engineering Sciences. The topic of kinetic gas theory was chosen as to broaden the students knowledge in the field of fluid mechanics in general. In particular the students should get a new perspective on the contiuum theory approach applied in ...
