BACKGROUND Osteopontin represents a multifunctional molecule playing a pivotal role in chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Its expression is increased in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of our study was to analyze the association of osteopontin (OPN/SPP1) gene variants in a large cohort of IBD patients. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Genomic DNA from 2819 Caucasian individ...

In the title compound, [Cd(HCOO)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))](n), the Cd(II) ion, located on a position with 2.22 site symmetry, is surrounded by two 4,4'-bipyridine ligands and four formate ligands in a distorted octahedral CdN(2)O(4) coordination. The 4,4'-bipyridine ligands bridge the metal ions, forming one-dimensional chains along different directions, which are further connected by formate ligands ...

In order to investigate the accumulation and bio-absorption of lead and cadmium in radish and cress, the present study has been conducted in a completely randomized design in three replicates in a hydroponic growing medium. The first factor includes the plant type at two levels (radish and cress), and the second factor is consisted of lead (Pb) (first experiment) at two levels (50 and 100 mg/L)...

Disaccharides tagged with p-aminobenzoic acid (ABA) were separated by capillary electrophoresis (CE) and analyzed on-line with negative ion electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI/MS/MS). The formation of glycosylamine instead of reductive amination was selected as the derivatization reaction. In negative ion ESI, the glycosylamine approach provides more information on linkage and...

CONTEXT Several studies have demonstrated a higher prevalence of celiac disease (CD) among females with Turner syndrome when compared to the general population. Nevertheless, there is no record in literature concerning this investigation among Brazilian patients. OBJECTIVE To assess the prevalence of CD among a group of Brazilian patients with Turner syndrome. METHODS Fifty-six females with...

Microdialysis sampling of lipophilic molecules in human tissues is challenging because protein binding and adhesion to the membrane limit recovery. Hydroxypropyl-ß-cyclodextrin (HP-ß-CD) forms complexes with hydrophobic molecules thereby improving microdialysis recovery of lipophilic molecules in vitro and in rodents. We tested the approach in human subjects. First, we determined HP-ß-CD influe...

In the title compound, [CdI(2){(C(6)H(5))(3)PO}(2)], the Cd(II) atom is ligated by two I atoms and two O atoms from two triphenyl-phosphine oxide ligands in a disorted tetra-hedral arrangement. While the O-Cd-I angles vary from 106.67 (7) to 111.23 (7)°, the O-Cd-O angle is 88.60 (10)° and the I-Cd-I angle angle is 125.47 (2)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by van der Waals forces only.

Let Cd,k be the largest number of vertices in a Cayley graph of degree d and diameter k. We show that Cd,3 ≥ 3 16(d − 3) 3 and Cd,5 ≥ 25(d−7 4 ) 5 for any d ≥ 8, and Cd,4 ≥ 32(d−8 5 ) 4 for any d ≥ 10. For sufficiently large d our graphs are the largest known Cayley graphs of degree d and diameters 3, 4 and 5.

PURPOSE Gender differences in paediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are frequently reported as a secondary outcome and the results are divergent. To assess gender differences by analysing data collected within the Swiss IBD cohort study database since 2008, related to children with IBD, using the Montreal classification for a systematic approach. METHODS Data on gender, ag...
