Purpose: Currently, there are few effective adjuvant therapies for pediatric ependymoma outside confocal radiation, and prognosis remains poor. The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway is one of the most commonly activated pathways in cancer. PI3Ks transduce signals from growth factors and cytokines, resulting in the phosphorylation and activation of AKT, which in turn induces changes in ce...

Limited availability of in vitro and in vivo model systems has hampered efforts to understand tumor biology and test novel therapies for ependymoma, the third most common malignant brain tumor that occurs in children. To develop clinically relevant animal models of ependymoma, we directly injected a fresh surgical specimen from a 9-year-old patient into the right cerebrum of RAG2/severe complex...

Papillary ependymoma is a rare variant of ependymoma and often gives rise to confusion with choroid plexus papilloma because of topographic, light microscopic and ultrastructural similarities. Here, we report two cases of papillary ependymomas regarding their unique clinicopathologic features and differential points from choroid plexus papilloma. Brain MRI revealed a large mass in the left late...

PURPOSE In the current report, we describe a case of an extramedullary ependymoma involving a lumbar nerve root near conus medullaris. Spinal ependymomas commonly present as intramedullary tumors in the cervical or thoracic cord or as tumors arising from the conus medullaris or the filum terminale. In this case, we showed an extramedullary conus ependymoma involving a lumbar nerve root with fil...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to estimate the survival impact of lymphadenectomy in patients diagnosed with uterine clear cell cancer (UCCC). METHODS Patients with a diagnosis of UCCC were identified from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program from 1988 to 2007. Only surgically treated patients were included. Statistical analysis using Student t-test, Kaplan-Meier su...

At the NCCN 2023 Annual Conference, experts reviewed clinical data on established therapies for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma and discussed strategies to effectively manage both clear non–clear tumor histologies in setting of advanced stages. Depicted through 3 separate case studies, they strategized selection optimal first-line subsequent-line based individual study characteris...

Two cases of spinal cord tumours (one schwannoma and one ependymoma) of the lumbar spine are reported. The treatment with radical excision and posterolateral fusion, along with adjuvant radiation therapy in the case with ependymoma was successful, with follow-up of six and seven years respectively. A literature review is presented, and a possible presentation with low back pain is analysed.

Supratentorial ependymoma is a rare tumour in the adult central nervous system. We present an unusual case of supratentorial ependymoma in a young adult that presented as a pure cortical cyst with a mural nodule and discuss the differential diagnosis of such lesions in the brain.

•Primary vaginal clear cell adenocarcinoma (PVCCA) coexists with urinary tract anomalies without exposure to diethylstilbestrol in some cases.•PVCCA in our case showed genetic alterations of well-known cancer related genes, including a mutation of PIK3CA.•The genetic profile suggests that the carcinogenesis of PVCCA might have elements common with that of OCCA.
