Clostridium butyricum and Clostridium baratii species have been known to produce botulinum toxin types E and F, respectively, which can cause botulism, a rare but serious neuroparalytic disease. Here, we present finished genome sequences for two of these clinically relevant strains.
We define several differential graded operads, some of them being related to families of polytopes : simplices and permutohedra. We also obtain a presentation by generators and relations of the operad K on associahedra introduced in a previous article.
Adult mice, made susceptible to Clostridium botulinum by feedings of metronidazole, were immobilized with an anesthetic and held for 30 min in isolators in which a fine powder of lyophilized pathogen spores was made airborne. Exposed mice were surface decontaminated before being kept for 2 days in holding isolators. Mice were intestinally colonized by the pathogen. Colonization rates were relat...
BACKGROUND Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum which causes a flaccid muscle paralysis. It is currently used for aesthetic treatments and in the focal hyperhidrosis. Recently, botulinum toxin has also been used experimentally in many other dermatological conditions with good results. OBJECTIVE To review and analyze the possible botulinum toxin off-l...
On farms involved in botulism outbreaks, cycles of Clostridium botulinum have occurred. The cycles were initiated by feeding brewers' grains contaminated with proteolytic C. botulinum type B to the cows. Spreading of manure containing feces of these cows increased the contamination of the pastures. In grass silages prepared with wilted grass from these pastures the number of C. botulinum type B...
In the present study the efficacy Botulism vaccine (formalinised aluminum hydroxide gel adsorbed toxoid of Clostridium botulinum types C and D) was evaluated in four Danish dairy cows under field conditions. Other four dairy herds were unvaccinated. Blood serum of all animals was analyzed for specific C. botulinum types A, B, C, D and E antibodies using a developed ELISA. Feces of all animals w...
Botulism is caused by a neurotoxin produced from the anaerobic, Spore-forming bacterium clostridium botulinum. Botulism have four clinical forms:1)Food –borne botulism 2)Wound botulism 3)Infant botulism 4)undetermined botulism, that the most common is food-borne botulism.  ...
