The performance evaluation of bank branches is a difficult task. One of the main reasons for this difficulty is the complexity inherent in the variety of aspects to be considered in the evaluation, and the multiple and conflicting interests of the different stakeholders involved. In this paper we aim to show how cognitive mapping and the MACBETH approach can be used to support the evaluation of...
This paper addresses the direct manipulation of cognitive maps. It describes its components and manipulation and proposes an object model that defines the properties relevant to build elaborated feedback. It also presents a metaphor based feedback dialect that is able to communicate the complex constraints of cognitive maps.
This article suggests a second thought on two papers published in Cognitive psychology in 1978 and 1981. Both articles deal with systematic distortions in cognitive mapping and both are based on experiments conducted along the North American West Coast. The first, by Stevens and Coupe, deals with distortions due to hierarchical organization while the second, by Tversky, with distortions due to ...
Rodents have been widely studied for their adaptive navigation capabilities. They are able to exhibit multiple navigation strategies; some based on simple sensory-motor associations, while others rely on the construction of cognitive maps. We previously proposed a computational model of parallel learning processes during navigation which could reproduce in simulation a wide set of rat behaviora...
This paper demonstrates the application of bibliometric mapping techniques in the area of funded research networks. We discuss how science maps can be used to facilitate communication inside newly formed communities, but also to account for their activities to funding agencies. We present the mapping of EINS as case – an FP7-funded Network of Excellence. Finally, we discuss how these techniques...
We are interested in evaluating interactive retrieval systems from the user's perspective. In this paper, we introduce several user studies evaluating the cognitive change in users' knowledge by using concept maps. We also propose a platform for user studies, including analysis tools, task descriptions, evaluation tools, and data sets.
In this paper we describe research into a form of practitioner sensemaking in the context of participatory hypermedia construction sessions, in which groups of people build knowledge maps. We discuss how constructs from narrative theory and improvisation have helped us understand what happens at the moments when practitioners encounter dilemmas and obstacles. We provide brief examples from case...
This paper discusses some implications of knowledge creation processes in informal social networks for the development of technologies to support them. The principal point of departure are social theories of learning and the theories of organisational knowledge creation. The focus is on models for the exchange and sharing of implicit knowledge. A model of personalised learning knowledge maps is...
Knowledge management is one of the fastest emerging fields in industry today. Unfortunately, however, most of the knowledge management endeavors do not seem to have rigorous and comprehensive knowledge management methodologies, tools, and techniques. One technique that can greatly aid the knowledge management field can be borrowed from the concept mapping community, namely the use of knowledge ...
Today’s technology has reached new heights that have not been fully implemented. One of the areas where technology has not yet reached its full potential is in education. This study examined the effects of concreteness of location names and contiguity of location names with textual information on learning from computer-based reference maps. The research was designed to be a 3 concreteness (conc...
