The methodology of switched LAN models construction in the form of colored Petri net is introduced. For the simulation and analysis of the model the Design/CPN tool is used. The tasks of estimation of LAN switch’s buffer size and network response time were solved. The components of the model are switches, servers, and workstations. © 2004 IMACS. Generalizedd StochasticPetriNetsprovidethe modeller withh immediate transitions, but aa model will be correct only if the modeller cann specify how too solve the firingg conflicts betweenn these transitions. This task is usually cumbersome andd may be impossible for large nets. Inn confusion-free nets, these conflict sets are subsets of equivalence classes of aa structural conflict relation, wh...

In this paper, we present a new way to simulate Turing machines using a specific form of Petri nets such that the resulting nets are capable of thoroughly describing behavior of the input Turing machines. We model every element of a Turing machine’s tuple F) q0, δ, Σ, b, Γ, Q, (i.e., with an equivalent translation in Colored Petri net’s set of elements with priority transitions such that the re...

This paper presents an ARENA®-based library for the development of Timed Colored Petri Net (TCPN) models. In this way, the strengths of Petri Nets and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) are combined in a powerful tool for modeling and analysis of systems. The use of the library is illustrated on a cosmetics manufacturing facility in Bogotá (Colombia). This facility was modeled via both TCPNs and a...

This paper describes an approach for modeling the behavioral characteristics of concurrent objectoriented designs using the Petri net formalism. Specifically, this paper describes an approach for integrating colored Petri nets with concurrent object architecture designs created with the COMET method and specified in the Unified Modeling Language (UML). This work is part of an on-going effort to...

We address the verification of programmable logic controllers (PLC). In our approach, a PLC program is translated into a special type of colored Petri net, a so-called register net (RN). We present analysis methods based on the partial order semantics of RN’s, which allow the generation of partial order traces as counter examples in the presence of programming errors. To that purpose, the behav...

In this paper, a formal model for antivirus update agent system is presented based on mobile agent technology and predicate/transition Petri nets. The mobile agent system contains two mobile agents called DCA and UNA. It sends out agents to update antivirus on client computers in a network. Each agent takes on a specified responsibility. First, DCA roams through the network and check the last d...

Discrete event system,   Supervisory control,   Petri Net, Constraint   This paper presents a method to manage the time in a manufacturing system for obtaining an optimized model. The system in this paper is modeled by the timed Petri net and the optimization is performed based on the structural properties of Petri nets. In a system there are some states which are called forbidden states an...

The use of high-level nets, such as colored Petri nets, is very convenient for modeling complex systems in order to have a compact, readable and structured specification. Symmetric Nets with Bags (SNB) were introduced to cope with this goal without introducing a burden due to the underlying complexity of the state space. The structure of bags allows through exploitation of symmetries to provide...

In the world of designing network protocols, verification is a crucial step to eliminate weaknesses and inaccuracies of effective network protocols. There are many models and tools to verify network protocols, including, Finite State Machines (FSM), Colored Petri Nets (CP-Nets), Temporal Logic, Predicate Logic, Estelle Specification, Path based Approach etc. This paper presents a survey of vari...
