The purpose of this paper is to introduce and discuss the concept of orthogonality in normed spaces. A concept of orthogonality on normed linear space was introduced. We obtain some subspaces of Banach spaces which are topologically complemented.

The complemented subspace problem asks, in general, which closed subspaces M of a Banach space X are complemented; i.e. there exists a closed subspace N of X such that X = M ⊕ N? This problem is in the heart of the theory of Banach spaces and plays a key role in the development of the Banach space theory. Our aim is to investigate some new results on complemented subspaces, to present a history...

Finite point configurations in projective spaces are combinatorially described by matroids, where full (finite) projective spaces correspond to connected modular matroids. Every representable matroid can in fact be extended to a modular one. However, we show that some matroids do not even have a modularly complemented extension. Enlarging the class of “ambient spaces” under consideration, we sh...

The Banach space `∞/c0 is isomorphic to the linear space of continuous functions on N∗ with the supremum norm, C(N∗). Similarly, the canonical representation of the `∞ sum of `∞/c0 is the Banach space of continuous functions on the closure of any non-compact cozero subset of N∗. It is important to determine if there is a continuous linear lifting of this Banach space to a complemented subset of...

The persistence of small populations is influenced by genetic structure and functional connectivity. We used two network-based approaches to understand the persistence of the northern Idaho ground squirrel (Urocitellus brunneus) and the southern Idaho ground squirrel (U. endemicus), two congeners of conservation concern. These graph theoretic approaches are conventionally applied to social or t...

The Fujaba project has created a light weight graph grammar approach allowing the use of graph grammar concepts in usual Java programs. Fujaba comes with visual editors for graph schemas / class diagrams, control structures / activity diagrams, and graph rewrite rules / extended object diagrams. Thereby the user may specify executable programs that are translated into complete Java programs wit...
