Nitroxide polymer brushes were covalently patterned on flexible conducting substrates via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization and microcontact printing. As a cathode of organic radical batteries, the nitroxide polymer brushes prevent the nitroxide polymer from dissolving into electrolyte solvents, which improves the cycle-life performance of batteries.

Controlled patterning of conducting polymers at a microor nanoscale is the first step towards the fabrication of miniaturized functional devices. Here, we introduce an approach for the nanopatterning of conducting polymers using an improved monomer ‘‘ink’’ in dip-pen nanolithography ~DPN!. The nominal monomer ‘‘ink’’ is converted, in situ, to its conducting solid-state polymeric form after patt...

Conducting polymers represent an important class of functional organic materials for next-generation electronic and optical devices. Advances in nanotechnology allow for the fabrication of various conducting polymer nanomaterials through synthesis methods such as solid-phase template synthesis, molecular template synthesis, and template-free synthesis. Nanostructured conducting polymers featuri...

The number of allowed configurations of a polymer is reduced by the presence of a repulsive surface resulting in an entropic force between them. We develop a method to calculate the entropic force, and detailed pressure distribution, for long ideal polymers near a scale-free repulsive surface. For infinite polymers the monomer density is related to the electrostatic potential near a conducting ...

Despite nearly two decades of research, the absence of ideal flexible and transparent electrodes has been the largest obstacle in realizing flexible and printable electronics for future technologies. Here we report the fabrication of 'polymer-metal hybrid electrodes' with high-performance properties, including a bending radius <1 mm, a visible-range transmittance>95% and a sheet resistance <10 ...
