Background: Chylothorax is a pathological condition associated with high mortality and morbidity rate. The first observation of chylothorax thoracic vertebral injury was documented by Krabbell in 1885. Since then, several cases have been described the literature.
Non traumatic years after spine surgery rare condition. We case patient who sustained fracture-dislocation presented right side...
Background & Aim: Chylothorax is a rare complication that is created following the leakage of lymph fluid from thoracic duct into the pleural space. This situation reduces the lung volume and in case of not being controlled, can lead to respiratory distress, cyanosis and even death. This study introduces a case of traumatic chylothorax. Case Report: In this study, the patient was a 12 year o...
A patient in whom chylothorax was the presenting feature of sarcoidosis is reported. Mediastinal lymphadenopathy was shown by computed tomographic scanning. Obstruction of the thoracic duct by enlarged lymph nodes or fibrosis is the probable cause of chylothorax in this case. The association of chylothorax and sarcoidosis is extremely rare.
Chylothorax is defined as accumulation of chyle-containing lymphatic fluid within the pleural space. Chylothorax is very rarely seen in hemodialysis patients. We report a case of a patient on hemodialysis who developed chylothorax secondary to left innominate vein stenosis, with other features of venous hypertension such as arm edema successfully treated with angioplasty and pigtail drainage.
Chylothorax is an unusual complication of various malignant neoplasms, generally lymphomas. The few reported cases of chylothorax with gastric and other abdominal malignancies have involved large abdominal masses with prominent adenopathy and chylous ascites. We describe a patient in whom chylothorax was the presenting manifestation of an adenocarcinoma with probable gastric primary, developing...
Chylothorax is bacteriostatic in nature. Bacterial infection rarely develops in chylothorax and has never been reported in a non-immunocompromised host. A 33-year-old woman was admitted to National Taiwan University Hospital because of fever and right pleuritic pain. Chest roentgenography and computed tomography revealed right pleural effusion. Examination of the pleural effusion revealed a pro...
Chylothorax is a life-threatening clinical entity. Traditional surgical management for cases refractory to conservative treatment is thoracic duct ligation through a right open thoracotomy or closure of the site of duct laceration through an open thoracotomy. We report herein two patients with left chylothorax successfully treated by supradiaphragmatic thoracic duct (STD) ligation through left-...
Post-pneumonectomy chylothorax is an uncommon complication following surgery, with an estimated incidence of less than 0.7%. Post-pneumonectomy tension chylothorax, where rapid accumulation of chyle in the post-pneumonectomy space results in hemodynamic compromise, is exceedingly rare, with just 7 cases previously reported. All prior cases of tension chylothorax were managed operatively with de...
Chylothorax, the accumulation of chyle in the pleural space, is a relatively rare cause of pleural effusion in children. It can cause significant respiratory morbidity, as well as lead to malnutrition and immunodeficiency. Thus, a chylothorax requires timely diagnosis and treatment. This review will first discuss the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system and discuss various causes that...
