The hyaluronate molecule is a negatively charged polysaccharide that performs a plethora of physiological functions in many cell tissues depending on its conformation. In the present paper, molecular modeling at three levels of theory and two basis sets was used to gain a deeper insight in the complex molecular structure of calcium(II) and copper(II) hyaluronate. Simulation results were compare...

A novel stripping chemiluminescence (CL) method in situ has been developed which is a combination of selective stripping and CL detection in situ. This method consists of a concentration (pre-electrolysis) step, in which the analyte metal ion is reduced at a controlled potential whilst being deposited as the metal on a solid electrode placed in an electrogenerated chemiluminescence flow cell, a...

Four heteronuclear complexes Mn(CuL)2(SCN)2 (1), {[Mn(CuL)2(mu-dca)2].2H2O}n (2), Zn(CuL)2(SCN)2 (3), and [Fe(CuL)(N3)2]2 (4) incorporating macrocyclic oxamide ligands have been synthesized and structurally characterized. L is the dianion of diethyl 5,6,7,8,15,16-hexahydro-6,7-dioxodibenzo[1,4,8,11]-tetraazacyclotetradecine-13,18-dicarboxylate, and dca is the dicyanamide. The structure of 1 or ...

Iron, copper and zinc are essential metals for cell metabolism. Plants have evolved different schemes to efficiently mobilize low-solubility nutrients such as metals from their environment and to transport them between organs. In this review we highlight the divergences and convergences of the iron, copper and zinc uptake, transport and homoeostatic pathways.

the synthesis, spectroscopy and magnetic characterization of five new dinuclear copper(ii) complexes are described. all five compounds have the general formula [cu2(l)4(o-r)2](cl)2 or [cu2(l)2(cl)2](cl)2, in which r = ch3 or h, l=2, 3 or 4-pyridinemethanol as l2, l3 or l4, respectively. the title compounds consist of dinuclear units with bridging methoxo groups in [cu2(l4)4(o-ch3)2](cl)2, hydro...

In the title mononuclear copper(II) compound, [CuBr(NCS)(C(10)H(15)N(3))], the Cu(II) atom is five-coordinated by three N atoms of the Schiff base ligand, the N atom of a thio-cyanate ligand and by one bromide ion forming a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds into chains propagating along [101].

The title compound, (C(6)H(8)N)(2)[CuCl(4)], is composed of two 3-methyl-pyridinium cation and one tetra-chloridocuprate(II) anion. The geometry around the copper(II) ion is that of a distorted tetra-hedron. In the crystal structure, the anions and cations are linked by three different N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. In addition, the crystal structure exhibits aromatic π-π inter-actions between the pyri...

Crab zoeae (Rhithropanopeus harrisii) were exposed during their development opment to a range of free cupric ion activities regulated in seawater by use of a copper chelate buffer system. Most cytosolic copper was found to be associated with metallothionein. Copper-thionein could be related to free cupric ion activity, and a shift in copper-thionein accumulation was correlated with inhibition o...
