Procarboxypeptidases are the remaining major digestive zymogens the activation process of which remains unsolved. Here it is shown that in the tryptic activation of monomeric procarboxypeptidase A from porcine pancreas, the generation of carboxypeptidase A (CPA) activity parallels the limited proteolysis of the 94-residue activation segment. This degradation proceeds from the COOH-terminal end ...

BACKGROUND/AIM Inhibition of CD4(+)FOXP3(+) regulatory T-cell (Treg) activity may be important for successful cancer immunotherapy. We investigated the suppressive effects of several chemotherapeutic agents on Treg induction in vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS Tregs were induced by incubating human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with interleukin-2 (500 U/ml) and transforming growth fa...

intracranial lipoma is an uncommon entity. a rare type of tumor in the internal auditory canal (iac) and the cerebellopontine angle (cpa) is lipoma. there are a few case reports in the literature related to intravestibular lipoma. herein, we report a case of lipomas within the cerebellopontine angle and vestibule of the inner ear in a patient with tinnitus and dizziness. the patient was evaluat...

UNLABELLED Common polysaccharide antigen (CPA) is a conserved cell surface polysaccharide produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It contains a rhamnan homopolymer and is one of the two forms of O polysaccharide attached to P. aeruginosa lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Our laboratory has previously characterized an eight-gene cluster (pa5447-pa5454 in P. aeruginosa PAO1) required for biosynthesis of CPA....

Cyclic phosphatidic acid (cPA) is a naturally occurring phospholipid mediator with a unique cyclic phosphate ring at the sn-2 and sn-3 positions of its glycerol backbone. We have previously shown that cPA significantly suppresses ischemia-induced delayed neuronal death and the accumulation of glial fibrillary acidic protein in the CA1 region of the rat hippocampus. These results indicated that ...

This study compares the characteristics of Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE) and Staphylococcus haemolyticus (SH) isolates from epidemiologically unrelated infections in humans (Hu) (28 SE-Hu; 8 SH-Hu) and companion animals (CpA) (12 SE-CpA; 13 SH-CpA). All isolates underwent antimicrobial susceptibility testing, multilocus sequence typing and DNA microarray profiling to detect antimicrobial resi...

Cyclophosphamide (CPA) and ifosfamide (IFA) are oxazaphosphorine anticancer prodrugs metabolized by two alternative cytochrome P450 (P450) pathways, drug activation by 4-hydroxylation and drug inactivation by N-dechloroethylation, which generates the neurotoxic and nephrotoxic byproduct chloroacetaldehyde. CPA and IFA metabolism catalyzed by P450s 2B1, 2B4, 2B5, and seven site-specific 2B1 muta...

Cross-priming amplification (CPA) technology for tuberculosis diagnosis from sputum specimens was evaluated. The sensitivity of CPA from smear- and liquid culture-positive specimens was 96.9%, and that from smear-negative and liquid culture-positive specimens was 87.5%. The specificity of CPA in culture-negative specimens was 98.8%.

Standard chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC has reached a therapeutic plateau. More effective strategies must be explored. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of metronomic chemotherapy combined with an angiogenesis inhibitor in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A total of 114 BALB/c nude mice were inoculated subcutaneously with human NSCLC cells (A549), and when xenograft tumors ...

Cyclophosphamide (CPA) is a chemotherapeutic agent that is primarily activated in the liver by cytochrome P4502B6 (CYP2B6) and then transported to the tumor via blood flow. To prevent deleterious secondary effects, P450-based gene-directed enzyme prodrug therapy (GDEPT) consists of expressing CYP2B6 in tumor cells before CPA treatment. Given the relatively low affinity of CYP2B6 for CPA, the ai...
